    RS5 Roof Rack

Can Anyone help me figure out if a roof rack will work on the RS5? (i know some of you are thinking how could you!!?) I have an RS5 coming in and a cyclist at heart :), so I was wondering if there was a system that worked? I talked to a member here on this forum who had an S5 and Audi has one that works, but then I google'd some more info and found out that the system wasn't working for FY12/ 13 models. I would be interested to know if a dealer on this forum could let me know so I can order the rack in advance.

I'm sure Thule will have a kit out shortly.... They have one that fits A5/S5. I don't see why the OEM rack wouldn't work for MY 12/13 its not like the car has changed really.

Actually the A5/S5 kit will likely fit the RS5 the dimensions are only different by a few mm.

I put a Thule on our '13 S5. There are a couple things to watch for. I would not expect the RS5 to have a different roof.

The Thule page lists the wrong fit kit. The one listed is for a Hyundai. The correct number is 1571.

The fit kit is listed for models without the glass sunroof. I made it work with the sunroof by sliding the feet as far forward as possible and by trimming the inner edge of the front pads so that they don't touch the roof when open.

So you didn't go through the Audi Dealer and purchase one? Do you have any pics?

I have a Rhino Rack for my A5 and it works great, its low profile the pads don't touch the glass roof.
I looked at the Audi one but it sits to high and looked akward, didn't flow with the cars design.
Rhino Rack website currently shows the fit kit will work on the RS5.

@A5Toadster, that's awesome, I never knew there was anything else other than the Audi (Thule) one. Can you take a photo of it on your car? I had the Audi one, but it is just way too bulky, and the rear arm with the plastic cover partially covering the feet is just half assed in my opinion.

Check out Whispbar too. I had one for my old A4 and liked the look of if better, it's a lower profile than the Thule.

definitely marrs the paint and there is the possibility of scratches. i just ended up leaving them on full time to hide the marks the racks left behind.

edit: this was with my A4 using the Yakima system.

I wonder if i get a strip of 3M filter to protect it that it won't scratch the top.. hmm.. complications.

@vboy...That is actually my car, Yello just posted the pics up for me, and yes those are Yakima trays, the fit kit is what attaches it under the rubber strip(2nd Pic), and I have had NO problem with the paint getting scratched, and I've installed and removed it several times already.

    @YelloJello...thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks for the response, which Yakima trays are those and do they fit well? Will probably go with the same set up.

Im out of the country for now, and can't tell you exactly which trays they are, but they were the universal fit for the aero style bars, kinda akward to loosen and tighten up the fork clamps beacuse of how close they are to the front bar, other than that they fit well, and the rear strap is quick release, and rachet to tighten. The fit kit brackets are coated with a rubber compound so if you do bump the paint should not do any harm.

One bike? I can fit mine in my trunk when I take the front wheel off with the rear seats folded down. Best way to travel somewhere.

It doesn't fit since its a 29er and it gets pretty muddy out there so i wouldn't want to get the car filthy every time i went for a ride.

Wind noise is significant on the oem, but not terrible and overbearing.

Some avid cyclists have posted they like the suction cups better. You might want to look into those also.
