    Motul x-cess vs x-clean?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I made the change a few times ago from the Lubro Moly to the Motul 8100 x-cess. I really do like the Motul, only this time my guy gave me the 8100 x-clean and not the x-cess?

    here are two links:
    http://motul.speclube.com/products/a...an-5w30-c3-5l/
    http://motul.speclube.com/products/a...-cess-5w40-5l/

Anyone have experience with this, tried a search and did not find anything too useful, only people saying the x-clean is more made for diesels but now that im reading about it im almost thinking it might be good for our cars with the sludge and all?

    Thanks!

The b7 doesn't have a sludge issue as far as I'm aware.

Having said that its VW 502 approved so it'll be absolutely fine in our engines. As long as you have no issues running 5w30 vs 5w40 then I don't see why not try it out.

I don't have any experience with the X-Clean, but I thought about using it myself. From my research, it seems like oils for diesel engines are better for the FSI due to low SAPS. There's an article somewhere where they found that low SAPS helps with carbon build-up. I couldn't find any UOAs for the X-Clean, but Shell Rotella T6 and Red Line 5w-40 seem to have the best UOAs for the FSI and both meet specifications for diesel engines. The X-Clean is a low SAPS oil. I personally use Red Line.

    ^This

I was a Motul fanboy for a while, ran it in my MK3 and MK4 for years and always recommended it to people, I used the X-cess and X-max 5w40... but now I run T6 and enjoy sub 50$ oil changes!

I know 5w30s are usually "fine" but I prefer the 40, these engines run hot and I drive them hard.

I get a good deal on the motul same as the T6 for me. I always thought our cars had sludge and carbon problems, hence why lots say to run a catch can.

Anyways this was 5W40 as well sent the wrong link above. Ill let you know how I think of it. Just wanted to see if its OK to use, also it will only cost $5 more in the future so I might run it, as I have also heard diesel oil is good in our cars.

    Thanks

If you can get cheap motul in Vic go for it!

It really is awesome oil, i'll have to look more into it, but is the X-clean an Ester (group V) base stock?

They fixed the sludge issues on the 2.0t. Carbon buildup yeah, but oil won't help with that as it won't touch tone intake tract.

    T6 ftw

Actually from what i've read on BobIsTheOilGuy forums it will... Group 4 and 5 oils have less tendency to shear off into the vapors that get sucked up by our PCV system.

    http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...94#Post1252272

And here's a heavy read on a patent that should have been picked up earlier; http://www.google.com/patents?id=a4w...page&q&f=false

FWIW I do T6 for my oil changes and top off with GC 0w30 when it's low, If I could grab a couple jugs of Motul X-Max or another Ester base stock oil it would be even better to use as a "top off" oil

    And yet another thread; http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...Number=2236559

BITOG Forum is a wealth of information, but it also makes me sleep less at night because they are so in depth sometimes i read on and on and on and on.....

You know after I posted that I did realize that oil vapors from the pcv as well as the slight blowby our turbos are prone to could definitely low oil vapors into the intake. No oil is good oil in the intake, but oil with more detergents is better than oil with less.

And I find it's pretty hard to go wrong with t6. Its an amazing value, and I too am a bit rough on my car. Couple that with almost exclusively city driving and I thing the slightly thicker weight is just fine.

I saw a post on Bimmerfest quoting a BMW driver's exchange with a Shell tech person, in which the Shell staffer said NOT to use it in a gasoline-powered car. Lubricates the engine just fine, but it could eventually destroy the catalytic converter...So says the Shell answer man. Unfortunately, I lost that URL.

But I didn't lose this one, which makes it obvious that you definitely should use it if you're digging trenches with your Caterpillar backhoe, but not so much for your gasoline vehicle:

You're saving money until you pay for a new catalytic converter. So says Shell in an exchange I read. See the specs. It says this oil is for diesel trucks and Caterpillar bulldozers:

Lots of people use rotella t6 without issue. I've been using it for years in my b7. My 034 hfc is fine, no problems.
