Question Resonator and muffler delete. Straight Pipe.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So tomorrow I am going to delete the Resonator and Muffler off my s4 and run a straight pipe. Im just trying to get some feed back on what size pipe I should use. Anybody done this? Any suggestions?

Update: So I did a Resonator and Muffler delete originally but kept the stock piping and replace the missing peaces with 2.5 in piping. Ran that for a couple of week and just recently changed it again. This time cut it behind the cats and did a 2.5 true dual all the way back. Here a little clip revving it.

I had this on my stage 2+, don't remember what size it was though. The exhaust note was superb but it was a little to loud and the best part is you can really hear the turbos spool, no more sleeper effect for you.

Yeah I've been looking around and 2.25 seems to sound pretty good. I heard a 2.75 also on youtube and it also sounded very good although not as much of a note.

So your removing your whole exhaust and having a custom one made that does not have any resonators or mufflers? If so, then i would go with dual 2.5 or 3 inch.
Here is a uuc vm3 with resonator removed and gutted dps

Right. So basically straight pipe from where the resonator would be. And that sounds good but not as much of a tone to it.

Heres a video I found. He claims its a 2.75 inch

and This one is 2.25 inch I believe.

Got ya. well you loose the "tone'' by getting rid of the mufflers imho but to try and explain it, he larger the piping, the lower the ''tone'' will be. Smaller piping will result in a more raspy high pitched ''tone''.

Straight piping you're exhaust can lead to burnt valves. Just saying.

You don't have to worry about back pressure as much on turbo cars, the turbo supplies the back pressure

Well it CAN'T. We can all read just fine, but your in a section where these cars ONLY came turbo'd. So NONE of us need to worry about back pressure.

I'll write that in Italian if the people from Vortex can't read the English version.

The bigger the pipe the deeper tone you will get...
I had a 3" straight pipe on my old car (saab) and it sounded like a boat..
A buddy has his Audi straight piped and it is 3" as well.. Sounds like shit. Go either 2.5" or 3" with a nice muffler.

Already did a 2.5 True Dual. That was a sound clip. And one of my buddy actually did a straight 3" on his B5 and it sounds amazing.

single 3.5 for performance (weight) and flow reasons.

if sound is what you care about, just remove the rear muffler will do, but doesn't really open up the flow as much as an aftermarket.

i would not straight pipe and test pipe cats on a street car. but i like to able to leave my house after 10pm and not have everyone in the neighborhood think i'm a dick.
