20x10.5s with 285/30/20 tires all around on H&R sport springs, doable w/o rolling?

    Hey guys,

I have been talking with Incurve wheels and they have given me a great opportunity to go 10.5s deep concave all around with my IC-M7s I currently have 20x9F 245/35/20 and 20x10.5R 285/30/20 lowered H&R sport springs with no rubbing aside from high speed bumps/potholes which is expected... My current set up is only about 5 months old with less than 4k miles so I would hate to get all new tires again. I was hoping to stay 285/30/20 all around so I would only have to worry about 2 tires.

I've searched the forum and I know a couple people have done it like John P., Victorious, and Timmy. One rolled his fender with coils and another had no rubbing at all with H&R OE springs. As a medium, between the two what do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance

    Clint,

It's doable, as you know, but it really depends on few things:

    1) the tire itself- some 285s are wider than others, so that's where the largest concern is. If anything, a fender roll isn't that big of a deal.. I ended up rolling my fronts anyway. I borrowed one and it took about 20-30 mins per side.

    2) suspension- the springs aren't that low, so I think you should be okay due to your springs, which are a bit conservative up front. The only thing I'm curious about is if that will give you less negative camber up front making it more difficult to 'tuck'

Chach thanks for the info! Im gonna try getting a similar set of tires that I have now, the Yokohama S. Drives as they seem to be on the thinner side...any experience with the Hankook 285/30/20 tire? Any idea where to get a fender roller?

Its funny, but last time I took the A5 to the dealer they mistakenly rotated my current set up so they put the rears up front. It seemed like there was some room to spare still and it looked damn good! I didn't get to inspect it more thoroughly or drive it though as I was too distracted by the stupidity of the mechanics....cant believe they didn't notice the staggered setup. I told them to switch it as soon as I saw the car.

It is duable... we have done it before but it takes a bit of massaging of the fender as well as the right offset of the wheels to make them happen.

To be safe, i would run a 275/30/20.... Let us know if you need to get some special pricing on tires...

285 is getting pretty extreme for front tires, not even supercars have such wide front tires, it numbs the steering response, road feedback suffers and doesn't track straight on uneven surfaces. It's not a good idea, unless you're only going for the "look" of big fat tires, as it certainly doesn't improve perfornace and handling.

Alex the offset is et 28

Appreciate the feedback! I was thinking of doing a test fit/drive by switching my rears and fronts temporarily if no1 sees a problem with this...

I would have gone 275/30/20 all around if I had a clean slate but unfortunately this is impulse so I have to work with what I have. I understand that theses tires may not be the best for performance/handling but I do not track the car, its not my daily driver, and I don't drive aggressively. Imo I also wouldn't exactly consider 285/30 on 20x10.5 a big fat tire, at least with Yokohamas and Hankooks. Wouldn't mind that extra "meat" for the roads here in the tristate area either.

Et28, hmmm. I run Et25 on Michelin SS (they run very wide) and am much lower than you are with no rub. You can make it work with little effort (if it does not as is), pull the trigger. Will look damn good

I know this is an old thread but I'm planning to run the vossen 20x10.5 all 4 corners with the Michelin SS as well and I am on the h&r OE springs... So could I pull off a 285 30 20 without rubbing ? The front really concerns me.... Or should i just run the 275 I mean how big is the difference really ? What's everyone's thoughts ? I don't just cruse I tend to drive pretty hard with even the occasional track day twice a year ... Any input not already posted above would be great!

Im putting some 20x10 ET20 with Yokohama S-Drive 275/35/20's on tomorrow. A5 S line, stock suspension. Not quite what your looking at, but close to your potential 285's. I'll let you know if I have any fitment issues but from what I have read, I should be fine.
