    2009 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro Prestige

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am looking at a 2009 Audi A4 3.2 Prestige at a dealership around home. It has a little over 72k miles on it. I was wondering if this seems high for a used car purchase. The price is pretty low in my opinion at around 22k. I am going to be new to Audi and not sure what to expect in regards to maintenance, as I know many cars require significant costs around 75k miles.

The CarFax shows that it was a "commercial" use car, so I assume it was some sort of company or commuter car, so 72k miles in a few years makes since. Just looking for some insight on a nice Audi that's reasonable priced but with high mileage. It is not certified preowned, but I am unsure on whether I could purchase additional coverage through the dealership.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

price seems a bit high to me. i would think ~16-18k would be more appropriate but perhaps theres some room for you to negotiate off of their 22k figure. im not as familiar with the B8 3.2s but if the car is certified and has had major service work completed, closer to 20k might be worth it. these cars will last a long time if maintained properly but maintenance can be pricey. i see youre in MD too so familiarize yourself with the local indy shops, e.g., RAI, Induktion, NGP, etc. if you end up needing to get it serviced or inspected before purchase. the dealership will rape you if given the opportunity.

Price is too high - and before even considering, I would suggest reviewing the maintentance for this car. You're out of warranty, likely no CPO, and, as noted, repairs at the quoted mileage can be costly (even at indy shops).

I can't comment on price because I'm not in the us, but the 3.2 is solid, I've had no issues with it at all, I'm at 95k(km). Only real issue is carbon build up, I havent encountered an issue with it, but I do know another 3.2 member(Audacious) has had a carbon clean.

Fwiw a carbon clean runs about 100$ a cylinder up here at an indy shop.

I was surprised to see the majority of people on this thread thought the price was high, I thought it was suspriciously low.

What about repairs I can expect at around 75k?

Yeah - $22k is about right in the middle of the road for a very high milage 2009. A very nice, clean, LOW MILES, 2009 A4 PRESTIGE or even a Prem Plus will easily get in the high $20's very close to $30k for Prestige! I would be very nervous about 75k miles though! I have a 2009 with the 3.2 engine and NOT one single issue - but, I only have 32k miles! I drive all the time too so I don't know how in the world someone got this car up to 75k! BUt if it was maintained well these cars are solid - especially the 3.2 V6! And the V6 is actually very lively with 265 HP and plenty of Torque, I think about 245lbs!

I think the price is ok for that one, 3.2 and Prestige, although miles a bit high. but for example my 09 2.0T bought at 35k miles was listed at $26k

of course you can negotiate i think you can easily get $1k knocked off that, dealers dont always sell at their listed/wanted price. check edmunds.com and kbb.com values, usually getting it $1-2k under the value is a good deal.

Can't go wrong with the 3.2 V6 IMHO - blatantly biased, all 3 of my A4's have been V6s
Would be concerned re mileage, however no reported oil consumption etc. issues that the 2.0T has experienced. Carbon build up is an issue with direct injection technology, from what little I've read.

    Hope Audacious will chime in.

Hi Guys, I am in Australia and I have a car as this on is, had it about 6 months now with only half the amount of miles in my case kms, but I paid over double of that price here in Australia. I think we get ripped off here.
    Cheers

Also can't comment on the price because of my location, but I can comment on the engine. It is solid. I'm almost at 80000km and had literally zero issues except for a carbon cleaning at 55000km which was covered under warranty. I would highly recommend a carbon cleaning right away as it truly livens the engine up.

Right on. Even though the mileage is up there, I have not heard of any major issues in the 3.2 except for carbon buildup. There might be some small issues down the road (like all higher mileage cars) but I wouldn't expect anything major. There are very few of us 3.2's, but we all love what we have, for a good reason!

Came from a 1.8T and used to love the feeling of a big turbo in my car. Spooling, boosting and quick acceleration were things I thought I could only get in a turbo.

This time around, I picked up the 3.2L, best decision I made. The car feels natural, sounds natural and pushes like a BEAST.

I have drive select so popping it into Dynamic mode makes a HUGE difference. Day/Night. I'm not sure if your American Prestige models come equipped with ADS but if it does, GET THIS CAR!

Also, every now and then if you push your car and the revs, really make it work out, you will minimize your chance of carbon build up. Carbon build-up is especially an issue for people who commute very close to home. That means, if you generally turn your car on, drive for 15 minutes to your destination and then turn your car off. You're not allowing time for the engine to warm up and burn off "excess waste."

Truth. Drive WOT all the time and you'll never have a carbon issue!

I agree with these replies, the 3.2 is a quite strong engine, but 27k seems a bit high. I just bought my 2009 3.2 4 months ago. I think I was the only person at Waterfest with one in fact, but anyway I paid 26k for mine, premium plus, with only 8000 miles on the clock

The price is at 22k, hoping I can get it down to around 20k. Does anybody have any insight on possible maintenance I will incur? Such as timing/cam belt and major repairs along those lines.
