2013 S4 MMI Bluetooth Streaming Audio From iPhone

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've had my 2013 S4 for almost a week now and finally set up the bluetooth streaming of music from my iPhone to the MMI....works so good! Very happy this got this figured out. I may ditch Sirus and get premium Spotify for $10/month. With premium Spotify you can listen to all your Spotify music offline so no data connection is needed. Very very happy about this.

Can't you just stream directly from the phone or do you need to add/plug something into the car to stream from iPhone?

You bt stream from the phone directly, but I can't have my gnex paired as both an audio device AND a phone device at the same time. Trying to figure out if that's a mmi thing or a phone thing.

Hmm, I need to check this. I just picked up my car last night (YAY!) and the dealership didn't know how to enable the Bluetooth streaming audio in the MMI. So when I was playing around with making calls the music wasn't streaming via Bluetooth. It's weird that you have to pair the phone twice (once for phone and once for audio) but I still only see one device when playing with the configuration.

One frustrating thing about streaming from Spotify via Bluetooth as your audio source is that you can't move through your songs using the steering wheel. It's either use the MMI interface or push the volume knob left or right. Oh well, there's a lot to figure out in the next few days. I'll report back if I can do phone and music at the same time with the iPhone if no one else has this afternoon.

Just picked up mine on Wednesday morning. Loving it...missing the Carrera she replaces, but it's a far more comfortable daily commuter. Anyway, I've noticed the same problem. My iPhone connects to Audi Connect, but Audi Connect doesn't seem to recognize my iPhone. Is that because it's already been connected as a phone, so I can't also stream? Not a rocket surgeon on this stuff, so any wisdom from the group is appreciated...

When we connected my phone to the car via bluetooth at the dealer I also found that it wouldn't show the phone as a source on the audio menu. Turns out there is an option on the phone menu that is apparently defaulted to "Off" where you need to enable audio streaming. Once that was done I could stream right away - but I didn't test making a phone call afterwards.

Sorry for the crappy picture, I took it last night on my phone.

I haven't tried making or receiving a call while music is playing via bluetooth but I don't see why it wouldn't work. When a call comes in it goes to your phone so the phone will fade the music then you can answer the call. I'll try it later today.

As shown below there are two places you have to set the bluetooth. One for phone and one for streaming audio.

I figured it out, it wouldn't pair as a media player initially (even though it was already paired as a phone) because I waited too long after the car was started to pair. I just redid it and it's working fine now.

The iPhone can stream audio and make/receive calls through the mmi on my 2013 S4. The only issue I've had so far is that the Bluetooth range is a little too good. I've been out of the car and 20-30 feet away and have calls go to the car rather than the phone in my hand. Ha ha.

Was able to stream Pandora, but didn't try making/receiving a call while doing so. I'll give that a shot next. Thanks again for the tip...worked perfectly!

Doesn't that require the car to be running?

I'm not clear on if this was answered above, but I verified it when I got home - the car does smoothly switch between streaming music and incoming/outgoing phone calls via bluetooth smoothly.

Also confirmed this tonight with Spotify. Listening to Spotify...call comes in and dims music and then returns to music when you end call.

First time Audi owner - 2013 Ice Silver/Black/Black A5 Cabriolet; Premium Plus + Navi.

I successfully paired my 4S, both for phone and music. Maybe I imagined it or confused my iPhone with the iPod physically connected to my car, but I could have sworn I was able to browse my music in iTunes via Bluetooth. Over the weekend however, I streamed music, but I couldn't change songs or view my music. I guess my question is whether or not I should be able to see my music via BT. If so, what do I need to do to see it?

I just got my Audi A5 last week, and I love it! I had no trouble connecting my iPhone to the MMI via bluetooth for both phone and music... However, I find that I can't use the steering wheel scroll to scroll through songs when the iPhone via Bluetooth is the source. I can scroll just fine when the source of media is the iPod in my glove compartment. Any advice? I'm pretty sure there should be a way to scroll through via the steering wheel, even via BT connection. I use the joy stick on the nav for now, but steering wheel controls would be much easier. Thank you!

As far as I know you can't control your bluetooth streaming music with the steering wheels controls. Only with the MMI knob.

Can someone help me with connecting my Android to my 2013 Q5? I'm able to pair the phone Bluetooth, but not the audio player. My phone is the HTC EVO 4G. I've tried multiple times to get theaudioplatter to connect, but it keeps failing. Anyone know the fix? And don't say get an iPhone...lol

Do you have any settings in your phone for the profiles it uses? My Nexus 4 (Android 4.2, admittedly) has a settings button that appears next to "Audi MMI xxxx" in the Bluetooth menu while it's on, when you press the button you see check boxes next to "Phone audio" and "Media audio". You can toggle either on or off depending on what you want.

I literally just paired the phone once using the standard "phone" option and the media profile appeared anyway, I didn't have to do anything extra.

No. When using an iPhone via BT I don't get track information. However, I do get track information and even album art when streaming via Wifi.

    A slightly related question...

After initial pairing (i.e. daily use), how long does it take you to establish a bluetooth connection from when you start your car until it is fully paired (you can accept calls, stream music, etc,.)?
For me its up to a few minutes of "Connecting" and its really frustrating...

I can stream from my Samsung G3 over bluetooth without issue and have it paired as the active phone as well at the same time. However I dont get albumn art from my Samsung, not sure if its a hardware thing (not an iphone) or something else ? I do however find it REALLY frustrating that my old $40 visor bluetooth could easily manage pairing 2 phones simultaneously and my $60,000 Audi wont. To make matters worse it seems to choose a different phone every time I get into the car (I carry a work and a personal cell).
