    For those interested: AC delete

Well after blowing a second AC compressor in 2 years I've decided I've had enough. So I deleted my AC system. All in all I'd say it took about 90 minutes. I removed all high and low pressure hoses, receiver dryer, condenser, compressor, basically everything except the evaporator since that takes about 8 hours to remove and doesnt really free up any usable space. Plus it doesn't weigh much so I figured it wasnt worth the trouble. All said and done I'd say I removed probably somewhere around 10-15 pounds from the car, which isn't much but hey, every little bit helps. I noticed quite a bump in power but thats mostly due to the fact that my dead compressor had mucho rotational resistance to it.

The compressor itself is quite simple to remove, 3 bolts and two t-30 torx bolts for the AC lines. The high and low pressure lines are a bit trickier but still not too bad. You have to put the car into ''service mode'' (pull front bumper out a few inches) to get the condensor and high pressure line out. It also helps for the line to the receiver dryer. The dryer itself is fairly easy to remove, just 2 bolts plus 2 t30 torx bolts for the lines. The lines going from the dryer to inside the car are also very straight forward. Just remove the airbox assembly which takes about 2 minutes, and unbolt the allen type retainers for the lines, and unbolt another T30 torx at the evaporator. Sorry for no pictures, my iphone camera is dead lol.

For those interested in this you could probably just remove the compressor itself but I figued why leave all the hoses and condensor and such for nothing. It really removes quite a bit of clutter under the hood, and Now I have much more room for a fmic :D Finding the correct lenght belt was a bit of a bitch, more trial and error than anything, but finally stopped on a 450K6 from Dayco. Perfect fit , very stiff and not to hard to get on. A 445 would probably work too but would be quite a bit harder to get on there. I searched the forums for a while looking for this info and couldn't find it so I figure maybe some others will appreciate it!

    Happy wrenching!

You have no idea how much time you just saved me by putting the belt sizes on there.

If you don't want AC why don't you buy a 1998 base model Hyundai? I don't understand this, but whatever floats your boat.

I have an ac but the bearings are shot an make a loud whining sound so I'm just going to delete it until I install the new compressor

No, i didnt. But your comment on him buying a hyundai was stupid. There have been plenty of bad threads made, this was not one of them.

So if someone has had it with replacing an AC compressor, regardless if they love the rest of their car, they should sell it and buy an old crappy hyundai?

I still love you Rocky <3

No harm.. I was grumpy this morning anyways... I just don't see the point of running an (albeit old) german luxury sedan without A/C. A used A/C pump isn't even expensive either. Thanks for taking the time to put this together OP. Definitely informative for the people who want to delete their A/C on their DD or track car.

Just clarifying is the 450K6 from Dayco belt to fit a 1.8t?

I'm in the possess of deleting my AC to use it as my weekend/track car since my compressor went out along with a bent condenser from my accident, why not remove it.

If you need to delete your AC and Power steering pump this is the belt you need Gates K060388 (6PK985).

I just fitted a dayco 6pk1076 which is too small for the aircon delete in a 1.8T, although I fitted it incorrectly. Have gone back to the original belt unless someone can confirm that the 450 (=1143 in mm) is the correct one for the 1.8T? Thanks

The 450K6 is the one you need as said before. It is the one I run.

I am trying to bypass the compressor in my car and have the Gates K060450 (6PK1146) belt, which is 45-5/8", or 1160mm. It seems too long by at least a few inches...so I'm wondering what to do here. As best I can tell there is only one way to route the belt...although MAYBE I've got it wrong.

I need to bypass the compressor for a little while until I can arrange to have it replaced.

Only a few years late, but I just did this on my car (1.8t) because the AC compressor is bad but I don't want to deal with it yet. But it was causing a horrible squeak. Use the 450K6 belt and it worked perfectly!
