Thoughts on TSW wheels (e.g. strength, quality)? general wheel help.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am torn on wheels. Considering TSW Willows, Valencias, or Londrina but also Nurburbrings and VMR 710s. These are going on my avant in 20" by 8.5-9.5" with a drop so I am concerned about fitment as well as strength given how tight things might be and how little tire will be on them, i.e., 245-255 rubber.

Ive seen some people running some of these wheels on the A5/S5 but not so much here. Nurburgrings aside that is. What are people's thoughts on strength and quality with regard to the wheels above or even something similar (reasonably priced 20" with a slight lip thats strong)? Any pics of the wheels in 20 would also be greatly appreciated. I ask because I know TSW quality has been hit or miss apparently.

    thanks

I used to rock TSW blades back in the late 90's on a Prelude and they were well made then as well...

They have the same certifications as JWL and EC approval like every other wheel sold at Tire Rack.

TSW actually makes some other brands wheels for them: http://www.tsw.com/about.php

Only 2 TSW wheels (one of them is the Nurburgring) are rotary forged- meaning they are stronger and lighter than your typical gravity cast or low pressure cast wheels. In terms of value, rotary forged are the best. They have much of the strength and lightness of a fully forged wheel, but they are priced closer to cast wheels (meaning they are MUCH more affordable). I myself have Avant Garde M310s, which are low pressure cast, meaning they are both slightly stronger and lighter than a wheel of the same exact design that are gravity cast (ie VMR V710). Rotary forged is the step above that. If I were to get wheels again, I would probably go down the rotary forged path.

i would consider the nurburgrings but they dont appear to come in a silver finish. i have meteor grey so that gunmetal with machined face just wont look right for my tastes.

I was considering the same wheels powdercoated in silver.
Some of the advertisers that sell TSW might also offer powdercoating services.
I think they'd look great in 20s on your Avant.

yeah i'm just not convinced that they're any better than the VMRs especially with the added cost/step of powder coating. 710s would get it done in one shot.

Recently ordered the Nurburgrings and I am awaiting delivery. I chose those wheels because they are rotary forged, lightweight, durable, and well priced.; And they look good. A few members on the S4 forums have these wheels, and have only said wonderful things about them.
If you wait a week or two, I'll give you my feedback.

I haven't had my Nurburgring for so long, but I love them so far. Really strong wheels that's for sure. I've driven a good 4000km in quebec, (and another 6-7k elsewhere) and they're holding up just perfectly. For your info, if you think you've seen bad roads, quebec are 2x what you can imagine, mainly because of the amount of snow/freeze and hot summer weather.

    Overall I love them.

Here's a pic of the wheels on.

Nice but i'm still left with the color issue. I need a hypersilver version which they don't offer in the Nurburgrings.

I also wonder if a wheel like the Valencia would be as strong as the Nurburgrings.

Get them refinished? Contact them to see if they can leave them unfinished, never know you dont have anything to loose.

Not exactly apples to oranges, but I had a set of TSW wheels in Porsche fitment on my Lightning (using adapters). I was impressed with the finish, quality, and strength of the wheels. They never bent, and I was running a much heavier vehicle with barely any sidewall (and the sidewalls were very soft/compliant, transmitting any harsh impact to the wheels themselves). So I can endorse TSW wheels without reservation and wouldn't hesitate to try a set on my Audi either.

The two TSW wheels that are rotary forged are the TSW Nurburgring and the TSW Interlagos. They are lighter and stronger than other cast wheels out there in the market. Feel free to drop me a pm, send me an email at [email protected] or give me a call at 714-582-3330 x 8006 or ask for Alan directly and I'd be more than happy to get you guys some more details.

I ran a set of TSW Parabolias on my last S4 and briefly on my allroad. They were very nice wheels. No complaints here.
