B6 A4 1.8t- Rough idle, blue smoke, check engine light...

I was at a red light, and all the sudden my check engine light came on. Started to idle really rough, and it was smoking out of the exhaust; whether it was blue, grey or black I am unsure as it was dark outside. Sounds like it has a missfire, and now has a hard time starting.

Anyone else have something similar happen? I'm not driving the car, going to scan it tomorrow.

    It's a 2003 A4 1.8t quattro

After starting it and leting it run; very roughly at that, it seems to be over fueling like crazy. I can smell gas out the exhaust, and there's a liquid comming out of my tips that smells exactly like gasoline, if that's possible.

Coilpacks for the misfiring. Have you had the recall done for the coilpacks. If not start there.

    Thanks

It's misfiring like crazy. I thought the turbo went at first, however even though there is a misfire it spools and sounds perfect. I let the car sit and run for two or three minutes, it literally looks and smells like there is gas comming out of the exhaust, which would explain the smoke. I'm not sure if they have been done, I bought the car less then a month ago. I'll have it scanned tomorrow and see if it is covered or not

BTW if your check engine light is pulsing(going on and off) and not just staying lit please turn off your car and just scan it.

As others have said, sounds like a coil pack.

The car won't be ran until it's scanned. Would a single coil pack literally cause it to over fuel this much? It took about 6 or 7 seconds of cranking to turn over. I've never seen gas come out of the exhaust this way before; I am new to turbo'd cars though. I mostly dealt with n/a vw's so this is new to me

Simply put a coil pack along with a spark plug provide a spark to burn fuel to make energy(power). When a coil fails the fuel is not burned in the cylinder and it exists through the exhaust, where you are smelling it. If its really bad you might have multiple coils fail at the same time, though this is not too common.

This is a common problem and there is a recall. If you check the part # to your coils its should end in R, if it does not you should get the upgraded version for free at the dealer.

It seems like i'm getting spark, however it's very week in three coils. The spark is more red, opposed to a blue. Scanned it with just an obd2 and it showed up as a PO300. Going to have it scanned with vagcom tomorrow to pin point. Anyone have a PO300 code, and know the different causes of it?

Anyone know what the possibilities for a PO300 could be? I have yet to get a hold of a vagcom, so if anyone has had this code and solved it; i'd be interested in knowing what it could be. Just so I can start somewhere is diagnosing it

P0300 is a general misfire code. P0301 would be cylinder #1, P0302 would be cylinder #2, etc. Sure sounds like a bad coil pack.
