MMI/iPod - Why doesn't my iPod start playing where I left off?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After shutting the car off for a significant amount of time, the next time I start it the iPod will not start playing where I was previously when the vehicle was turned off. This doesn't make any sense that it wants to start playing at the first song on the top listed playlist no matter where it was when it stopped.
So after having it in for service yesterday and asking them about it, the service manager was no help. Please bear with me if this is a frequent topic as my search revealed nothing. Anyone else experinece this or know of anything I can do to fix this?
This is on a 2011 A4 MMI3 using a fairly new model iPod and the factory cord.

That happened to me when it was really cold out, and the ipod would die when I left it in the car. Next time you turn it on, check the battery of your ipod

This happens to me maybe once a month but it's weird that it's happening to you every time. I could never figure this out.

I have a 2011 A4, and I'd always get annoyed with the above mentioned issue.

    It's a quick fix.

Make sure your MMI settings are turned on to "Shuffle", should pick up where you left your playlist off last.

I also highly recommended selecting songs, (all of them) and shuffleing through them. Playlists typically bump you to the top.

    Hope this resolves your issue.

    Cheers,

i think that's just an issue with your ipod, it's turning itself off, nothing the car can do but just play where the ipod comes on to. either your ipod is dying or you have some sort of 'sleep/standby' mode setting on that's causing the ipod to reset like that?

Cold weather kills and iPods battery. Also did this with my Garmin. I assume extreme heat does as well. I try and take out the ipod when its gonna be really cold or hot.

The iPod is pretty new, no battery issues. It doesn't seem to turn itself off.
I already have it set to shuffle in the MMI.
It is very annoying that it starts on the same song every time I get in the car and start it!
Thank you for all your ideas, but I've tried them all already.
My iPod doesn't lock up and I haven't had to reset it.
To rule out the iPod, I have switched it out with an earlier model ipod and I will see if this may be the problem. A google searched turned up someone alleging the 5th generation nano is to blame. Can anyone tell me if they are using a 5th genteration ipod nano with no problems?

I will go through the settings to make sure I haven't overlooked some kind of sleep/standby mode.

Wild, never had that problem though I do get "cannot read from connected device" message frequently where I have to unplug the ipod and replug it in again to get it to work.

try this next time, leave the ipod in the car the same way, but leave it disconnected from the AMI. then when you get back into the car the next morning or w/e, turn on the ipod (don't connect it to the car yet, just the ipod itself), and see if it is where you left off or if it was back to the beginning of the playlist again. that way you can see if the ipod is doing that on its own or if the car is causing it to.

After a few days, it appears that switching iPods has done the trick. Picks up where I left off now. I haven't checked to see if there's some setting on the new 5th generation nano that I need to change, but I'll look in to it. In the mean time I have to say that is the issue.

I have an ipod classic, and it almost always starts where I left off. Once in a while I'll start up the car and starts at the first song of the first artist listed. Haven't been able to figure that one out yet.

So I finally upgraded from my iPod Classic to an iPod Nano (5th Gen) today.... just to find out every time you turn off the car and get out for 10 minutes or more, the Nano resets to the first song in your album list. Assume it has something to do with syncing with the MMI. Having to go back into the Playlist and song where I left off every time I get back into the car is not going to do it for me. Is this just an issue with the 5th gen Nano's? I went through all the Menu options and couldn't get it to pick up where I last left off. A Google search showed a few other similar complaints, but I was expecting more people to have this same issue. Am I missing something obvious here? I'm currently back to using my Classic (even though every month or two I get a frowny face and have to bang it against a pile of papers to get it working again), but I miss the Nano already.
