Breather hose or bung off the back of 2.0t intake manifold???????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
While driving today my car started to sputter while at a red light and I felt a loss of power when I accelerated. I took a quick look under the hood and noticed a plastic pipe or bung off the back of my intake manifold. When I plug it with my finger the car runs fine. Did something pop off? I don't remember seeing anything there before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is this the hose? If not, try to post a picture of yours or find one on the internet or just post a pic of the back of your intake manifold

There is a spot on the backside of the intake manifold that should have a rubber cap and hose clamp on it. If its missing you need to replace it.

Otherwise all your boost will squeeze out there and your ECU wont like it. You can run to an ace true hardware and in the bolt section they have black rubber plugs that you screw a bolt into and it expends. Quick easy fix.

Probably why the car wa running horrible. My local advanced auto didn't have a Plug that fit so I used the finger from a latex glove. Ghetto I know but it got me home (only 3 miles from home). Here are 2 photos of the "bung" and the 3rd photo is one I found online for what looks like a boost gauge kit.

I stand corrected. I just went and looked at mine. I bought a variety pack of rubber nipples a couple months ago from Napa for Less than $10 - - problem solved

no need for an OEM piece. Any rubber cap that is long enough will work

That was what I kinda figured. My local store only had caps up to 3/8 and that wasn't big enough.

Good reason to invest in a boost gauge now. Your last pic looks like the replacement T-bung from Podi tapped and ready for the boost gauge

If you have some 3/8 (iirc) hose laying around you could cut a small piece off and stick like a bolt or something in there to cap
It off, zip tie it up, should get you by for a few weeks until you can get a generic rubber cap.

I would personally try looking around in that area for the cap that popped off... Wonder why it did?

    At this point it's time
    For a boost gauge

If you need to fix it ASAP and cant get a cap, just get a piece or rubber hose, 2 clamps and a plug, ie a big bolt. Its been done before

**EDIT - Shane beat me to it. hes got a good point, how did that cap come off? those clamps are a PIA to get off

Im sure it has something to do with me having my timing belt/water pump/cam follower replaced the day before by a friend of mine. Maybe it somehow came loose when he was working on the car?

Unless the OE clamp came off I don't see this just blowing off. Mine was a pretty tight fit without the clamp. I do realize there is a lot of pressure pushing out there so again it is possible. Did you ask your friend if he was messing around with it?

I asked him and he says he didnt. He works at my local Audi dealership so I know he knows his stuff. He ordered me a new oem one ($8) and will put it on tomorrow.
