Trunk sometimes opens by itself after being closed

I've noticed this issue about 4 or 5 times. If I open my trunk with the car locked and close it - the car will automatically open it again (almost immediately after I close it). If I close it again, it will open. If I unlock the car, the trunk stays closed. This happens every once in a while, not every time. Any ideas on this problem? '08 A6.

I have experienced this sporadic issue for 7 years. I am unaware of a fix.

I've had this happen too I and I think I narrowed it down to standing too close to the trunk with the active key in my pocket. When I've left my key in the golf bag that I put in the trunk and accidentally shut the lid thinking the key was in my pocket it kept popping the lid until I removed the key from the trunk. So I think that the car senses the key and thinks you are locking it in the trunk and that is why it pops it back open. I could be wrong, but when I make sure to have key in pocket facing away from the trunk lid I have not experienced it since.

It is a safety feature for Audis with Advanced key. Basically It will not lock the car doors or the trunk if the car thinks the key is left inside. You can try it, leave the car key inside and lock the car from outside. It will not lock the car.

I have had the same problem but haven't figured out what is causing it.

Not sure I would agree with this. I know I have locked my wife's pocketbook in the trunk many times and her set of keys were in it and the trunk locked.
Same with the keys being inside the car, it still locked. Yes the car does notice her set because she can open the car with the keys in her pocketbook.

If I throw my key in my trunk, it will not lock and continue to pop back open. Although I am not experiencing the problem with just standing next to it, my car has this safety feature.

Interesting -- I'll keep this in mind. Makes sense, assuming that is what it is

    Thanks!

I have been able to duplicate this by leaving something too close to the edge of the trunk. It happened to me twice and now I just push the last thing that was put in back and no more trunk popping open.
