    A3 Weight changed from 2007 8p to 2009 8p?!

I did some research and found out my car weighs almost 1.6 Tonnes!? ( or is this a mistake?)

It is an 07 a3 Quattro 2.0T Manual.

The 09 Models weight about 100kg less.

I'm lost....there isn't going to be too too much of a difference, the 2.0 should be faster but not by a lot. Is one of them an S-tronic or are both manual. Not very clear as to what this post is trying to get at....

    In the 2007 A3 2.0T Quattro it weighed : 1565 Kg - Manual

    In 2009 A3 2.0T Quattro it weighed : 1455 Kg. - S tronic

what is the difference between the two models?
Why is the older one about 100kg more?

the added component for the quattro adds a bit of weight to your car, thus it negates your power advantage somewhat.

... question is not being answered.

    Why is a 2009 Quattro A3 100kg less than a 2007 Quattro A3?

    what changed?

I do believe the same happened between the MKV and MKVI GTI and I think all that's called is progress in materials and structural development.

^This. Just look at the MK2 TT vs. the MK1 TT Quattro or FWD. The weight savings in the MK2 is significant.

I concur, probably just lighter materials in an effort to increase fuel economy. I remember reading when the 2009 facelift came out that they also made some improvements to the undercarriage panels to increase aerodynamics (for the same reason.) In 2008, the EPA (in the US) changed their fuel economy rating system, which resulted in lower numbers for most cars, giving manufacturers even more incentive to find ways to up the economy. Yes, I realize you're not in the US, but these changes would be beneficial worldwide.

I don't know if there is an appreciable weight difference between the FSI and TSI motors, but that was a big change between the two models too.

One last factor to consider: we don't know what options the cars that were weighed were fitted with. Little things can add up, such as power vs manual seats, even cloth vs leather, 17" vs 18" wheels, etc.

I didn't think there was any significant changes with the facelift though..

The mk5 to mk6 golf was an actual change with the chassis; and the entire look of the car.

Here with the audi it still is the "8p" model; It seems like only a few headlights and tail lights got changed.

The A3 had the same changes done just in a more subtle manner, in case you haven't figured this much out yet the MKVI and Facelifted A3 as well as the MKV and Pre-Facelift A3 are essentially the same with the A3 being simply a more refined and "mature" car and the GTI being its sportier more enthusiast oriented cousin if you will.

It's still the 8p because that's essentially what it is but now it's just newer, lighter, more efficient and in turn it should be slightly more efficient.

Could the change to a chain driven camshafts have some effect on it? Maybe other parts of the engine were changed as well that could decrease weight...

Also, what website is that image from?
