Pic request: Meteor grey with dark/black wheels, preferably an avant.

I'm pretty sure I don't like the way dark wheels would look on my car but need some convincing. The contrast doesn't seem like it'd be enough on a grey car.

pics i found on google images

meteor gray A5 with gunmetal wheels:

similar colored (prob is meteor?) porsche with black wheels:

not an A4 but should at least give you the color idea. personally i think hyper silver or silver looks best on meteor and quartz gray. the silver contrasts real nice, and with gunmetal/black wheels they just look more dirty it seems. the gunmetals dont look that bad though, if you want dark i'd go with that, but prob stay away from black. unless someone on here has a convincing setup, but IMO most cases the silver looks best on that gray.

yeah, like i said, i am pretty sure hyper silver or similar is the best match for dark grey cars but i was curious whether something maybe with a polished lip might work in black.

and that porsche is nice. ive been close to getting a porsche a few times now but just cant justify it with kids and all. in fact, i was tempted over the weekend when carmax had a 2003 carrera 4S with 50k miles and HRE wheels on it for 43k.

IMO, this car looks amazing w/ black wheels. Again just my 2 cents, but if you go black wheels on Meteor Grey you need to commit to the black theme and do black grill and black window trim too... I'm sure people will disagree with me though.

^^ that looks nice, but yeah if you go black you need to keep the black theme going or else the wheels seem like they dont stand out enough. black trim like you said and also like a gloss black chin/lip spoiler would look nice with it.

i agree and thats one reason i am cautious about dark wheels. my car doesnt have the dark package and i dont intend to black it out either.

i think gunmetal would look fine if you dont want to black out, its just hyper silver will work best with the regular setup IMO

    gunmetal: http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/8198/picture6zl7.png
    silver: http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/6951/img0348n.jpg and http://www.minutemachines.com/car/AudiS4_28.jpg

and here's hyper silver on quartz gray, its a diff shade but i just like this pic, looks awesome with that color http://www.velocitymotoring.com/link...ilver_1673.jpg

Sorry... I'm really not a member of the A5 Fan Club. The silver looks nice though, if you want to keep your other bits silver/chrome.

This beauty belongs to esteemed AZ member, Stubek, whose Meteor Gray Avant convinced me to get a Meteor Gray Avant. I hope he doesn't mind me stealing his pics.

    Hey sickspeed,

I see from your sig you have a S-Line Avant in Meteor Gray. Please post a side view of your Avant. I'd love to see how the S-Line side blades look on your Avant. I'm thinking about getting them added to my non-S-Line. Thanks!

As for the wheel color, I think either a hyper silver wheel or a gunmetal would look good. Black would be too much dark, I think. I posted pics of Stubek's Meteor Gray Avant with OEM 19" rotor wheels. I think those look awesome. They have both gunmetal color and machined silver surfaces. You can find good reps by the likes of Hartmann.

It was an amazing loaner. The dealership broke an interior trim piece while doing the seals and had to hold onto my car for a couple extra days while waiting for the new part to come in. No complaints from me! Unfortunately they also dented the rocker panel somehow and I was stuck in a premium Q5 for a month.

Not an avant but B8 A4 meteor gray. I would get a new avant in a heartbeat if they were available in 6 speed.

Honest opinion, meteor grey looks best with silver wheels. It adds a nice contrast to the car.

Also, that loaner avant doesn't really look like a meteor grey...

This might be a nice alternative for you, a mix of dark and light. Some machined polished silver with gun metal:

Machined finishing is hardly a fad. It's been around longer than most wheel finishes. Matte black can be considered a fad...chrome MAYBE can be considered a fad. painted wheels can be considered a fad...machine finished products cannot.

Murdering out/blacking out a car is a fad that will be soon stopped. Look to see on this forum how many cars are black on black or white on black and you will soon realize that we are talking about 80% of the B8 community lol.

    Agree with the "commit" comment

I was going to purchase matte black or gloss black wheels but decided against it. Dolphin Grey looks better with some silver in the wheel. It gives the car a better profile. I have an awesome picture of what I'm going to put on my car but can't load it.

I'm not a fan of dark wheels.

    1. The darker color hides a lot of the wheel detail.
    2. The wheel/tire blend and often the wheels appear smaller visually.
    3. On darker colored cars you loose all contrast

OEM Titanium colored wheels are about as dark as I'd go. I think those look fine on lighter colored cars. However dark cars still look best with Silver.

    I definitely agree with this.

It's because blacking everything out is the cheapest, and easiest, way to make your car look 'not stock'. It seems like every modded car I see looks like this. Problem is it often results in such a one dimensional look. All modded cars begin to look the same, which is the exact opposite of the purpose of modding.
