Megan Racing - Euro-street Series Coilovers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Was just browsing around and found these, didn't know Megan Racing made coilovers for our cars.

Searched around here, found nothing. Maybe they're new? Old news? They sound reasonably interesting so far to me. Megan Racing, from my experience and what I know, are decent. Plus I like the specs so far.

    SPECS:
    - Spring rates: 894/559lbs in = 16kg/10kg F/R
    - Model Number: MR-CDK-AS497
    - 32 Levels of Damper Force Adjustment
    - Rubber Dust Boots
    - Adjustable Ride Height
    - Aggressive Spring Rates
    - Single-Cylinder Design
    - Aluminum Brackets

    MSRP: $999.00

    Thoughts?

    Anyone have them?

The Description on their website makes it sound like they pay great attention to detail, I would be interested as well but don't want to be the guinea pig if in fact no one else has experience with them.

32 levels of damper adjustment? Hope that is just another way of saying 8-settings per shock, cause who the f*** needs 32 settings?? "Um, I think I'll try setting 27 today... No. On second thought, I'm gonna go crazy and use setting 4!"

In all seriousness, they do look good... Love those machined aluminum upper spring perches! I too wasn't aware that Megan has a kit for our cars... Thought they concentrated on the Import-tuning scene.

Anyone out there tried these yet?

^Interesting May just be an isolated incident though...

However, looking at the spring rates a little more, I am slightly confused at the F-R selection. From all my research, typically the more "streetable" kits for these cars have a little more spring up front than they do out back, and once they even out and/or get over 500-600lbs up front, the bias switches and manufacturers typically put a little more spring out back to make the car more "trackable". That's why STaSIS offers 600-800# front and 900-1100# rear options for their track-oriented kits.

This kit may be a good performer for all I know, its just the really high rate up front (versus the rear) that has me a little confused... Seems really high for a "street" kit

^yeah, but valving doesn't completely replace spring capacity... In other words, you could have 200# springs all around w/ 92-setting valving, and that doesn't mean they're meant for the track.

I have had a good deal of experience with Megan in the honda world. They're really hit or miss. My friend had coil overs on his civic and they blew within a year. Theydid replace them. I had a complete engine back exhaust and fitment was ok except the mid pipe banged on the floor when it rained. They're a b+ company.

    Skip Megan.

    Trust me.

Some will tell you they're good. These will be the same people that find Lexani tires acceptable. If someone comments on how great they are ask them how many other suspension setups they have run... and from who?

They're the same as all of the cheapo dampers that come out of Taiwan. No R&D. Just make sure they have the correct mounts to be fitted to a particular car and put them on sale for CHEAP.

To channel my inner Flyboy, saying trust me is not a good argument. Do you have proof of them being terrible coilovers? First hand experience? Proof that there is no r&d? My friend does not find lexani tires acceptable but he has been into Hondas forever hence the Megan racing coilovers on his first import.

Without proof this sounds like another bash everything that comes from the Far East. Do you park Kias on your lawn and beat them with sledgehammers to make a statement and let the world know how you feel about "cheap jap shit"?

Real proof is all I ask

I had Megan coilovers on my S2000. I thought they were decent, not good. That is until I bought Fortune Autos. The Fortune Autos blew the megans out of the water and even FAs are just a nice "basic" damper. I wouldn't even consider looking at Megan coilovers again. In comparison, they're bouncy, rough, built cheaply and just all around bad.

I've owned two sets on two separate chassis.

I replaced both sets on both chassis because of their horrible damping.

Don't know what kind of proof you want, but I've had them on a 240... They're crap. Both rears blew out in less than 6 months. They were bouncy and had no feel.

First person experience which you both have given. Not to mention I was just playing devils advocate. When my friend bought them I was like "what are you doing?!"

We're both if those coilovers damping adjustable?

Both were their generic "32 way adjustable damper." Street on my S14 when I was like 17 and I learned my lesson. When I bought my STi, 8 or so years later, it had the tracks on it. Replaced those with a nice Koni adjustable setup from Ground Control. So much more grip and waaaaay smoother ride.

I have the megan racing coilovers on my B8.5 2014 quattro 6MT. I am running a staggered rim set of 20x9.5 in front on 245/30ZR20 and 20x10.5 in the back on 285/25ZR20. I have had them on since May of 2014 and they are still in good condition.

I must say that they are very rough but I am running on full stiffness on the back and I am fully raised in the back as well because the tires were rubbing the fender whenever hitting a bump. The suspension does not perform so well under heavy load(2 people in the back). If I go into a parking lot that has a declined entrance and then immediate inclined continuation after the curb separation, the wheel tends to rub(this is with 2 people in the back). In the front I am almost lowered all the way I have a very small distance between my B & C collars.

When I am by myself in the car it is awesome. Especially on a nicely paved road, it handles quite efficiently. Would I recommend megan racing coilovers for an Audi? Probably not, unless you are on the budget side and not running wide, 20 in rims. I have put my original rim and tire set that came with the car. I believe they are 17's and let me say that megan coilovers are way better than stock suspension with the stock wheels. In about 6 months I am looking at an air kit that is sold by ecstuning.com or KW's.

I have KW's on my Porsche 951 and they are perfect. Smooth as glass.

Oh and as far as the build. Well, there is a knob to adjust dampness and let's just say that the knob just fell off on the 2nd month as I was readjusting my suspension to find the "sweet" spot (this happened only on one). There are no rust spots on the metal whatsoever, no oxidation beginning either and that's a year+.

    Overall:
    BUY if:
    -you are on a budget.
-want something good but not the best of the best.
-just to say you have coilovers and 32 levels of adjustment.

    DON'T BUY if:
-you run a staggered setup with 20 in rims.
    -you drive like speed racer.
-you live in area that has many potholes and rough roads.
    -you want real coilovers.

FINAL RATING: 3 out of 5 stars in my opinion. I would not recommend megan racing coilovers to my Audi friends. Much better options for a couple hundred bucks more.

If they have ~560lbs/in coils in the rear like the B5 kit, then I can totally see the back sagging on a B8 when loaded up...

    Good feedback - thx
