1.8t swap to vw caddy questions.

So my buddy just picked up a vw caddy with a 2003 jetta 1.8t engine and trans mocked up in it. No harness, no ecu but just about everythig else. I'm trying to help him get this thing running and I'm turning to you guys for some questions. were wanting to swap this thing to drive by cable in stead of drive by wire and I'm wondering if we can use my aeb engine harness, throttle body and ecu. Obviously he would need an aeb valve cover and coil packs. Is there anything else we will run into with the conversion or is it even possible? Tia

You don't have to swap the cover. You can do an ICM delete and just run the push down coils. I foresee a few other issues such as the knock sensors not plugging in, so AEB sensors may need to be sourced. Also the trigger wheel on the intake will need changed to the 1-window style. Little things.

After some late night research I think I decided it may just be easier, but more expensive, to just get a complete car harness from an 03 jetta, an ecu, the pedal setup, and a gauge cluster. Either way looks like he's going to need to have the ecu tuned and the imobilizer coded out.

Why an 03 Jetta? Use a slightly earlier harness/ECU without immobilizer.

What problems are you expecting when using the AEB harness?

He got the car with an 03 jetta engine and trans. I wanted to just use my harness and ecu to avoid the immobilizer and to avoid the pedal swap for dbw. I'm bringing my harness ecu and throttle body over today to see how plugs and sensors match up and well go from there. We need to try to get this thing started asap to see if the engine is even any good. Any advice to get it started without wiring the thing up in the car completely. Or at least crank? The engine has less than 30k on it but has been sitting for 7 years :/

If we were to get the icm delete harness and a few aeb sensors that may not work with the aeb harness and ecu, would everything else be good to go? Then from there we can get a pin out of the ecu and be able to wire in his factory caddy ignition and such? Not sure what we would do about gauge cluster at that point.

If it helps I have an awp 1.8t transverse car harness, ecu, key, ignition , coil packs, and cluster that I don't need.
I also have all the transverse fixings to make any 1.8t transverse.

The 1.8t he has is already transverse. Do u have just engine harness or complete car? And how much? U wouldn't happen to have the shift box with shifter and linkages as well? What about pedals? Pm me if ud like or post here

If you want to use the AEB harness, you'll need an AEB MAF and injectors (for it to run properly), and like I said you'll need to change over that trigger wheel on the cam to the non-vvt type (and leave the vvt unplugged). I think that should be enough to get it started after you get the coils figured out. Did the AEB's run at a different fuel pressure too? I'm not certain on that, but you may need to change the FPR as well, if that is the case.

Just guess what he paid for the car? Keep in mind engine and trans has under 30k on it. Were planning on running mk4 wiring harness and ecu now. Found a local car to look at tomorrow and if it doesn't have everything we have other parts lined up. Also planning mk4 dash swap shits gettin real interesting. Can't wait to get this thing going. And also it will help pay for my build.
