Would tint on just the rear windshield look bad?

I have 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear windshield. I've been getting so many tickets lately for tinted windows (at least 1 every 4-6 months or so) and I want to get rid of the sides. Would it look bad with no tint on the sides and have 20% on just the rear windshield? Or should I just have the front sides taken out, leaving the rear sides and the rear windshield tinted? Ideally, I would rather have all the tint removed but the rear windshield would be hard to remove because of the defroster lines.

I don't know how to make a poll so here it goes:

A. Remove tint on the sides (front and rear passenger doors) leaving just the rear windshield tinted (20%).
B. Remove just the front sides leaving the rear passenger doors (35%) and rear windshield tinted (20%).

removal is pretty cheap done pro, and they'll remove all of it.

you won't get tickets if you simply remove the front sides (which from my understanding is the only part that is "illegal")

IMO, just rear doesn't look too hot so I'd remove it all... .02

My local shop quoted me ~$250 to get the all the tint removed, which I think is a bit much considering this place is pretty cheap for installing tint (~175 with llumar last time I went there).

Its a pain in the ass to remove the residue thats left over when you remove the film. But just take a flat blade and start scraping... it will take a little while but if it saves you $250, thats $250 in your pocket.

Who doesn't love $250.

Yeah he charges $50 to get all the sides removed but he said with the rear defrosters, the back is a bit harder and that's the reason I don't want to do it myself. I can do the sides myself easily I'm sure.

your pro will probably end up just damaging your defrosters anyway, its hard not to. I suggest leaving all the tint except for the front two windows because that's what's illegal (dumb law). You can do this on your own with a razor and window cleaner. cut a slit on the top of the window and start pulling slowly while spraying a little till you get the big peices off then shave the small parts off with your razor and spray. saves you money

Long story short: It might look funny - but no tint looks worse.

sorry didn't really answer your question. Leaving just the rear windshield would look kinda tacky IMO. I had to take my two fronts off and it looks ugly but still better than having no tint in the back, at least your leather gets treated a little better

I would leave the back windshield. In fact I don't even like mismatched darkness. I had the rear windshield, 2 back windows and 2 quarter windows removed for $50 when I retinted my A6.

Tinting the front wind shield is a bad move in my opinion...
Cops tend to be lenient towards tinting of the drivers and passengers windows if its 30% or lighter, but 5% is a cop magnet...
which is also compounded by the fact your wind shield is tinted... cops will go OUT OF THEIR WAY to give you a ticket for a tinted wind shield.
It makes night time driving CRAZY dangerous. Glare+reduced visibility is not a good combo....

My boss told me that Armor All will take tint right off. Said it's a trick cops use when making people take their tint off on the spot, her son has something like 40+ tint tickets!

Your guy charges 50 to remove tint? Geez, that's steep....my guy charged 50 to remove the front tint and replace it with darker tint... charges about 120 to remove it all and put any other % on. But as for you questions, id say either just remove the front, or remove it all ....rear windshield only would look odd IMO

IMHO, I think just having the rear tinted would look weird... what about removing the sides and retinting lighter like maybe 50%?

I have tinting on our civic. The car was from Texas, I removed the tinting from the drivers and passenger front windows myself. I left the rest, never had an issue for 5 years in NJ.

Yeah my buddy's cousin has his car registered in FL and but he mainly lives here in NJ so even if he gets pulled over for tinted windows, he never gets a ticket.

Almost every SUV in the US comes this way... tinting on rear windows and rear windshield. Doesn't look all that bad on my civic.

all windows > no windows > SUV look > rear windshield only

Do the front two and leave it for a week or two to see if you like it or not. SUVs with factory tint always come like that, so it might be something you find you are OK with. You can always do the rest later if you want, and the door windows should be the easiest so you can decide if it's something to tackle on your own.

I should have taken a picture of mine before I took the back off. I just decided to remove everything myself and it wasn;t too bad. Still some residue left, but I'll clean the rest off tomorrow.
