Stoptech ST40 - initial track review

Starting the post here, will update with more details tomorrow after day 2 at the track. But in short, the Stoptech kit is absolutely phenomenal. Using PFC-01 pads up front, Hawk HP Plus rears, I can engage ABS at 110mph+ with absolutely NO hint of fade after driving for a 20 minute session. Pedal feel is excellent, very firm and takes a bit of pressure (right amount of pressure) to modulate brakes, but it's quite easy to brake at threshold or lower. For the first time at the track, I've reached the limit of the tires (Goodyear Eagle F1 assymetric 240 treadwear rating) under hard braking.

The difference between this setup and stock absolutely blew my mind today - exceeded all expectations. The PFC-01's are pretty easy to work as well. Good initial bit and quickly increasing power, but very solid and with the stiff pedal feel with the Stoptechs, I could get exactly the amount of braking needed at any speed. Heel toeing is far easier and consistent with these brakes, as they are firm and the pressure required to get threshold braking lines up the brake pedal perfectly with the gas. And with zero fade, every stop is exactly the same as the last.

I wish I had bought these as my very first upgrade to the S4.

For street driving - they are good, but not necessary at all. For the track - an absolute must!

Videos and more pics to come tomorrow!!!

I ran a front ST-40 kit kit during 4 years for track duty. No problems, except the red calipers were stained black after a while. I recommend black calipers for track ppl now:)

I second that - only reason I got red is cause they were on clearance and I got the kit for a fantastic deal. Other option was yellow... I like red better. Black is best

Word on the street is they will. In OP's first thread on the st40 he has then fitting behind the stock 17 avus wheels and I don't believe he ran a spacer either. Scroll a few pages back and have a look, should be easy to find. I'm on my phone otherwise I would check and link it for you.
BTW I bought this exact same kit but have yet to install and the only wheels I have are stockers

ST-40s will fit behind the stock 17' Avus wheel but the clearance is very minimal - but it will work.

    ^^^ 2nd.

Clearance is really minimal, 1mm or so. You can't have wheel weights there so have to get a static tire balance. I also ran RBF600 all the time.

I've fit the ST40's under my stock Avus 17's without spacers, and under another set of 17's with a 5mm spacer. I need a 2mm min spacer for the 18's due to the offset. Guess I"m starting to collect wheel setups :)

Back from day 2 at the track and the slight shuddering I had yesterday was completely gone - nice smooth, strong braking all day long. I have a little too much rear brake power now, as I was engaging ABS in the rears first and "wiggling" in the braking zone (which the officials didn't like all that much... was completely controlled though). I should have some videos up shortly. Got a great one following then passing an E39 M5 - real nice guy driving it.

But in short, 100% satisfied with the brakes. I gave them a hell of a workout the past 2 days, slowing from ~122-123 to about 50 lap after lap on the main straight, and then from ~95-100 to about 70 in a couple other braking zones. Not a HINT of fade all day. Well worth the $1400 I paid for them!!!!

Can move wheel weights inboard on wheels to gain clearance...

i see that you're running PFC-01 pads when i searched them i noticed they dont come with abs sensors, how/what did you do to make the abs still work and keep the light off?

^also curious... My Hawk Blues don't have sensors either, so I just have the OEM pigtail taped back to the wheel speed sensor cable. ABS light is on, but my pixels are almost gone so I don't really notice it
