    Avant exhaust tips?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently acquired an avant exhaust system and noticed that the dull tips are less than impressive. I searched around and saw that ECS once had some bolt-on avant tips, which are no longer available. I saw some on a 3.2 sedan parts diagram but wasn't sure if they would be compatible. Greg Nelson offered me his old ones, so I'll be trying them out soon enough. I'm wondering what other options avant owners have found. I'm thinking something larger and shinier. Any help would be appreciated. TIA!

Blake can you let me know where/how you acquired and Avant exhaust system? Was it local in CA? I've been looking for one for awhile!

i dont know if you want to consider the ebay ones but here are some choices you'd have there, much cheaper than OEM and theres a few variations. either the clip on like OEM look or a few others with the bolts on and diff sizes/patterns. i believe they should fit the avant? unless the the exhaust tips are diff diameter? im just assuming since the auctions dont specify sedan or avant.

Blake i have a set of the ECS OEM exhaust tips sitting in my closet for the avant, the ones with the screw nuts on the side to tighten onto the tips. I ordered them for my sedan for a little experiment but they are way too big for the stock exhaust tips and valence opening so i have no use for them anymore. PM me if your interested in me shipping them over to you.

Here's what I have, Blake. They shine up fine with some chrome polish. I polish them after every wash.

The ECS tips were screw on, and my OEM Avant tips are slip on and turn.

Those look fantastic! Any chance you have the part number handy? If they're the ones Jason@ECS found, they're pretty pricey and probably more than I'd spend just to cheer up the rear end until I get rid of my car.

i had bought the ECS avant exhaust tips. i recently took them off because i wanted to clean them. however there little screws wouldn't come out and i stripped the threads to take the tips off. i've only had them 1 winter. i would steer clear of tips held on by screws if you live in a salted area. or take them off for the winter. but who takes exhaust tips off in the winter lol. you could probably do something where they just slide on like the OEM sedan ones

Couldn't find anything on where I got them from. I have to think that they came from GAP, if I remember correctly, though. I don't think I spent all that much on them, also - less than $100...easily.

So you have the OEM Avant chrome exhaust tips for under $100? I know you said you don't remember where you got them, but do you have a part number? I'm looking for OEM Avant chrome exhaust tips (slide on) that will fit the exhaust tips included in the non-sline model exhaust (if that make sense).

Pretty sure these are the ones I have on there now (smaller for the A4's on one side). I'm looking for the Avant "larger" chrome tips, one on each side.

AFAIK, the ECS "Avant" tips are actually tips for a Mk II TT even though they are advertised as being A4 Avant parts. They aren't a perfect match. I complained about this on AudiWorld a while back. Also, make sure you use locktite to secure those screws. I didn't, and I lost a tip somewhere. After that, I replaced the ECS tips with Chinese eBay specials that I posted about here in an earlier thread about exhaust tips. They fit great and looked great ... until the winter when they corroded. Obviously, you get what you pay for. Now I'm running naked and just waiting to upgrade to a cat back exhaust system (#3 on my upgrade list behind new wheels and a Ross-Tech cable). I figure I've wasted enough money on exhaust tips, and I can't see paying $120 for genuine Audi parts.

    Peace,
    alk

Stock tips on my 2011 Avant, Part No. says 8K0 253 825 H, same part number for both left and right sides. These came already installed on my car but I believe you just twist them to align one of the two inlet notches to the bottom center to get the right angle, these just simply slip on. They are approximately 3.5" diameter:

If considering aftermarket stainless steel tips, I would go with Magnaflow Part No. 35121, 20-degree angle cut double wall, 4" diameter, 7" long, 2.25" inlet, and have a local muffler shop weld them on. Here's what they look like on my 2008 Passat 3.6 4motion just to give some idea what the tips look like:

For the rolled round edge (stock tip style), Magnaflow has Part No. 35177 but with a slightly less 15-degree cut than my 20-degree cut above. The angle that would work better in my opinion would be closer to 30-degrees to match the angle of the valence, but they don't have one that's the right length, the other tips they have with the 30-degree angle are too long unless you want to also ditch the stock muffler.

Don't know why you had problems with the ones from ECS. I have them on my avant. I believe they did say that those were for a TT but would fit an avant too. They were ridiculously cheap like $11.00 or so. I had my dealer install them for free, so far no issues at all. Love the look, lots of compliments too.

Possible? Part number 8K0 071 762 is what I linked. The part number that's viable from Warren S's pics doesn't come up as anything on our site - which is weird.

    Jason:
If you look at the pictures on your site again, you can barely make it out a part number. That number could easily be the 8K0 253 825 H seen in Warren S's pics, but not 8K0 071 762. Regardless, ETKA indicates that the two part numbers are the same.

    Blake:
Also from ETKA is the part number from the '12 Avant with 80mm tips that a body shop would likely use if it were doing an OEM replacement following something like an accident. If you look this part number up in somewhere like genuineaudiparts.com, you'll see that this part includes both the exhaust tip and resonator. It's also priced at >$160 per side.

Oh..the first pic I posted was from illustration 075-40 (my Avant also has the PR Code 2K8), so I wanted to see what 075-40 was.

Good to know, maybe its been superseeded by Audi and we are unaware. Visually they look identical so i guess that's all that matters!

I'd probably go with the Magnaflows. Those look better than the big rolled tips.

Which ironically I found on Amazon.com after a quick Bing search...

To summarize, it appears the 8K0071762 part number is correct for OEM B8 A4 avant slip-on exhaust tips. I have confirmed this with multiple sources. I bought the ECS Mk II TT bolt-on tips from speedybrit and test fit them today. Fitment is good and the price was right, so I won't complain. Case closed.

Blake - do you have pics? I'm debating between bolt on, slide on or weld on for 3 different tips.

    1. Bolt on = TT MKII
    2. Slide on = OEM Avant Tips above
    3. Weld on = Magnaflow part above

I think the Magnaflow will end up being the most time consuming and costly, thus I'm leaning away from it. I don't like how thick walled the OEM Avant tips are however. So what did yours look like?

I only test fit one side and did not take pics. The 3.2 S Line valence arrived this week and I need to plastidip it black before installing. Then I'll install the tips for good (with loctite on the bolts) to make sure everything lines up perfectly. I hope to complete it next week and will definitely take some pics to share with you.

I'm sure there is a 12 step program for what you got. You are modding a demodded ride. When the valence arrived, did the "shakes" stop?

There is no cure for what I've got!

Nor for mine. Do you have any PN's I could use to look them up while I wait for your pictures Blake?

Also, why plasti-dip instead of wrapping the Valence? I'm thinking about a matte black wrap. Should be around $80 by my local guy.

I don't have them here, but will shoot you the part #'s tomorrow.

Im going to try plastidip because it's cheap ($6 can at Home Depot) and supposed to be easy. I've never used it, so this could be a complete failure. In that case, I'd likely take it to be painted rather than wrapped. I can't imagine there's any good way to wrap the center (faux mesh) section of the S Line valence anyway.
