    WRX vs. A4

im thinking about selling the audi to buy a subaru wrx. ive been thinking about it for a while and the subaru just seems like a totally different car. i like the fact that its turbo'd awd, just like i like my a4, but i think the subaru would just be more fun. maybe its the fact the subaru is a hell of a lot faster, but i dunno. does anyone ever think about selling their audi for a WRX? what do you guys think?

Whenver I think about it , I just take a look in my interior, and then look at the interior of the WRX.

the wrx looks like butt in my opinion. everyone respects the car for its awd and performance capabilities, but it's a consensus pick for ugliness.

    your call though bro.

WRX' look like crap. I can't understand how someone that owns/likes an Audi could even like them.
Sure they are fast... but who cares, if they look like crap.

A4 styling >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WRX styling imo. The WRX's interior is no comparison to ours. I'm sure a chipped a4 with a good driver could keep up with a WRX also.

bmw was just expressing his opinion dude, looks like you're the one who's "bashin". and what's wrong with picking an a4 over a wrx anyway? isn't that why this is an AUDI forum? that's expected and obvious.

if you went to a subara/wrx forum, i'm sure they'd be bashing on a4s all day long. comes with the territory.

there are two wrx's in my crew (i guess you could call it) one is a stage 4+ but the other has just a turbo back exhasut, no cats, and he really pulls on me. call me a shitty driver but the wrx's are fast. i'm sure on the highway i'd take him cause i have better top end but to 100 he's got me.

I thought about getting a WRX STi about 3 weeks ago when my turbo went out in my '98 A4. I went and looked at the subaru and i just couldn't bring myself to driving one. Sure, it might be fast and AWD but it doesn't have the class and styling of an A4. People of all ages admire an Audi while most people look at the STi and say, "What the hell is that on the back of the car?" I guess i'm more into the class aspect of it being in my mid 30s.

So I went out and spent about $3k and made my A4 fast!!!!

I think wrxs are good looking, but that may be because I'm still young. Audis get more chicks though. If I could do it again, I would have gotten the wrx since the speed bug has hit me and mods for them are considerable cheaper. Don't get me wrong, I'm 120% happy with my Audi.

So "true" car enthusiasts bash the people and not the cars. (At least according to your example). Mature.

A4 is definitely more of a grown up type car. The fit/finish, styling, and level of refinement is much higher in the Audi...even a used one. My '01 A4 interior feels worlds nicer than my old boss's new WRX STi...they definitely put the money in the go fast parts rather than the interior.

Just depends what you want from the car...sporty tourer or track car. For the street I'd take the A4, for the track the WRX.

all ive gotta say is wrx doesnt come with armrests and ur gonna notice that the ride is way more rough than the audi. IMO evo is way better than a wrx and an a4 is better than both.

if u enjoy ridin ina box that goes fast, get a wrx, or the sti. a modded wrx and a modded a4 would hang nicely, a modded sti would be more in the s4 class imo. if u want to draw more attention to urself, so everyone knows ur car is fast, wrx is the way to go, audis are such sleepers, most people cant tell a6's and a4's apart. my .02

if i had it to do all over again I would have either gotten a much cheaper b5 1.8t or picked up an evo and swapped out the wing, tails, hood, etc. By cheaper I mean like an $7500 98 1.8t w/ 85k on it. Put aside 2500 to fix up the TB, waterpump, control arms, tie rod ends, serp. belt tensioner, icm, throttle body and anything else that would go bad. Then $3500 in big turbo hardware. That's a $13500-15000 1.8t running with stock+chip evo. Slower but cheaper. More comfortable, and cheaper. A lot more time invested. And to those thinking they would be happy w/ a lightly modded evo or sti... it won't happen. I don't even remember what a k03 chip feels like but I'm sure it was good for the first week or so.

it takes more than just a chip to hang with a wrx. They are pretty quick stock. But the bitches like a4's more, true story.

yes the a4 is quick but its also a luxury sedan, why do people forget that wrx and audi isnt like comparing apples and oranges

wrx is not a luxury sedan, its a sedan thats quick but thats it, i know this sounds stupid but if it comes down to a girl riding in an audi or a wrx good chance says she will ride in the audi over a wrx

Well, unlike everyone here, I move from an A4 to a Scoobie (bought a fully loaded Forester XT).

Pro to A4: Fit to finish, WAYYYYY better than the Scoobie. Perfect interior. Way more class, comfort and amenities. The single touch window down function on the remote and the double latch door unlock feature on the A4 is a big pro.

Con to Audi: Money pit. Always something to fix, and you all know what I mean.

My suggestion is that if you want buy a Scoobie, buy the Legacy. It’s nice from top to bottom. 250 HP turbo boxter engine. Tons of aftermarket parts, not to mention that it’s going to cost a lot less than the Audi. Really good fit to finish, and not to mention a lot more reliable. Just my .02cents.

My friend has a wrx. Its fast n' all, but he only has about 20k on it and the thing allready makes tons of wierd noises. When he puts the pedal to the floor, the engine makes sounds like someone just turned on a blender full of nuts and bolts. And if you ever compare the looks of the engine bay to that of an a4, the wrx will make you wana throw up.

Well, IMHO an Audi says CLASS. besides as many have mentioned, the WRX/STi has a spartan interior compared to the comfort of the A4. It's really apples to oranges. WRX's and EVO's are in their own class. They are inexpensive shells with powerfull motors with nice susp. set ups and good brakes. They're basically watered down racecars. A4's are more luxury sedans. Sure you can make an A4 hit 12's but this goes back the same age old argument- At what Expense? Money? Comfort? Of course I've thought about buying a WRX but then I see how unique the Audi is in my area and how many older WRX's there are in my area with nothing but big exhausts and I'm happy. They don't even try to race me, and I don't try either because I know what my car(at this point) can and cannot do. just my .02 cents.

I think the conclusion is, take each car for what it is. There are a couple members on here that have wrxs, foresters, stis, and we give them props. It shows when they post pics and the wave of compliments they get. We all know what each car brings to the table. No one argues which car is faster, we all know most wrxs are faster. No one argues over the quality of an Audi.

When deciding on a car, it all comes down to priority. The biggest factor is whether or not you have, or plan to have a family. Most of the members here have family which makes then want an Audi. If I had a little extra cash for a play car, a Subie is on top of the list. If I had a lot of extra cash, I would get a Porsche. Right now my Audi fits the bill; for me at least. My $.02185

"does anyone ever think about selling their audi for a WRX? what do you guys think?"

I thought you were asking us for our opinions...don't be surprised if someone gives one you don't like...especially in this place :)

My thoughts...Keep the A4 and get it modded. WRX is fast, and might even look nice if modded well, but for the most part I like the european styling alot more. Just my opinion though :)

Impreza interiors are hard to live with when you come from an Audi. I did test drive the 2005 Legacy GT Limited a couple times and that car is much better in all aspects. I was considering trading in my A4 for one this winter but, it still lacks alot of creature comforts.

But.....if I had to get a Subrau, the Legacy GT Limited would be the one for me.

i love my audi a lot and honestly i dont mind the sti, if i got one i would have to get the spec c sti because it doesnt have the ugly bookshelf wing so it looks clean. and honestly the way the audi delearship and AoA is treating me i dont think i even want to keep my a4 nor ever buy one again. Now that was an intelligently stated opinion. I love the performance potential of the WRX, but frankly have no desire to look like a pimping teenager driving it. The Legacy is a very nice car (I have a wife a kid and a mutt) but the price seems a bit high to me.....

I've ridden in a non STI wrx and there was a skilled driver behind the wheel. They hit 60 in less that 6 seconds (like 5.6 give or take a tenth). Are you saying that a chipped Audi can get close to that? I wouldn't know, thats why I am asking.

Now, if you meant what you said when you said "fast" meaning highway speeds (some people will say "wow that is fast, 0-60 is like 4 seconds" which would be the quickness) The WRX did tend to slow calm down more than I thought it would, but still not too bad, but I guess he didn't stay on it long enough for me to really tell. And I have never ridden in an A4 in my life. Just figured I would clear this up.

Just watch Top Gear (BBC). They always say the Audi has one of the best interiors. Subaru, is still a Japanese car, and it's meant to rally. The audi, even though it was built to rally (those with AWD), it still is a lux sport sedan - and in a different class than the Subaru. In my opinion, th IS300 would be a better match when it came to styling and asthetics. The Subaru is fast, but everyone and their mother has one. I like the fact that I'm young, with an Audi...you get respect - more than what a modified Subaru could give you say, at a job interview - or even a grocery store.

98% of people see you in an B5 A4 and they give you respect. Those same 98% would not give you respect in a WRX. They would just think you're another early 20 y.o. punk kid living at home spending all his money on the car while the parents make the payments and pay insurance. The other 2% Would probably recognize that the WRX is a capable race/rally car. I'm sure they'd feel the ame about the Audi. I hate to sound like a snob but Driving an Audi says something.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I just had to go through this decision. Get an A4 or spend a couple more thousand on a newer WRX. I obviously decided on an A4. I figured that I have like a zillion friends with WRXs but Im the only one out of my friends driving an A4. Plus I realized I cant stand how a WRX looks in stock form. I'd have to get suspension/wheels just to be able to look at the car. Plus I agree with everyone's general sentiments on the WRX's interior. I got fed up with the 240sx interior after two years of driving one, I wanted something nice this time.
