Ok guys i'm in the market to buy some torx sockets as I'm tired of borrowing when I need to get work done. what are common torx sizes for the b6? like the brake caliper bolts are T45, just shoot me some sizes that you guys have had to use on your Audi so I can buy a set to be used later down the road

Harbor Freight has an inexpensive set which I purchased several years ago and they have held up and have all the necessary sizes included. In other words I haven't run into a torx bolt that the set couldn't take care of.

Which brake caliper bolts are T45? I did a B5 S4 caliper upgrade myself and never had to use and torx bits.

On a side note, get a long T30 from sears, makes taking out the headlights a breeze every time. Also T27 for transmission pan bolts.

Get a good set, should include T8, T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30, T40, T45, T47, T50, T55. My snap on set came with all of these and I use them on a daily, Benz and Audi. My though, just cover the spectrum, lol

I would still get the T27 in 3/8, same with the T30 or like I stated above, the long T30 driver.

Guys, please don't make the same mistake I did and buy a cheapo torx head set (Powerbuilt from Autozone). Years ago, it was one of the 1st Audi specific tools I bought. Didn't think much of it and while they worked fine for a while, eventually one of them broke. Wouldn't have been such a big deal except it was during my CCT job and the chunk dropped into the open VC area. Luckily I was able to fish it out of the goooo with a magnet. Yeah, tools can break over time but this one shouldn't have... I mean, we're talkin about 10-15ft/lbs of pressure here.

The more technical bits like torx / hex etc have finer tolerances and therefore must be of higher quality. While I can't speak to any other set, including those listed above which I'll certainly check out, do be mindful. Good torx FTW.

Somewhat related note, a few months ago Jace pointed me in the direction of this awesome little set. While I'm not usually prone to impromptu tool purchases, this one was a no brainer... and surprisingly enough it's still available. Craftsman might have fallen off a tad over the years but these look and feel pretty solid IMO. Certainly worth the $40.

I have a few gear wrench ratcheting wrenches and they have held up well. I would say they are the same quality as craftsman tools. Just dont impact them (heavy duty air tools) and they should be fine.

Thats a nice little set, won't solve the torx issue though. Unless we are talking external.

You'll still need torx screwdrivers for those really small areas.

Do I really have to parse out my sentences? Don't be that guy. Hence why I said, "Somewhat related note" as in 'hey look at this other kick ass tool that is very Audi specific... just like a torx set.'

Well the torx set I picked out was normally +$30. I got lucky because advanced auto was running an online promotion, but hey for 12$ you can't complain on the deal I made :)

Get this too! Great for headlight stuff, and anything else that might be a security screw/bolt.
