Just grabbed the first internet pic I could find, but it can happen to any car.

I hate it when my car acts like a little bitch, treating me like a bitch

^that... wind force can cause the factory latch to rip out of the CF. you don't want that happening at highway speeds, better to be safe. the flush ones i feel actually enhance aesthetics

Personally had my hood fly up on my mustang because the hood latch pulled through the hood. Use a decent latch setup, or you'll regret it later.

I have a VIS racing carbon fiber hood without hood pins for about 2 years and I can tell that I really need to push down hard on the hood to lock it in the latch. I believe our latch are very strong and will not open under load, depending on the quality of the carbon fiber one. I have the hood pin in my closet but I really don't want to drill my lovely hood :/

Its not the latch that fails, its the bolts pulling out of the carbon fiber that is the problem.

    ^^^This

OP, your desire to keep the hood perfect is understandable, but like everyone has said, hood pins are highly recommended. Last thing you want is to be going 120mph and have it pull through. I personally think they cool just fine.

I don't know your specific hood, but some hoods are designed to be used without hood pins due to their more robust construction. These hoods are typically not nearly as lightweight, negating much of the reason to buy one. I run a full carbon fiber Fiber Images vented hood and its way too flexible to not use the hood pins.

We sell the Aero Catch pins in locking and non-locking.

Install them now, or wait for your hood to fly up, then you are buying a new hood again, windshield, paint, and maybe a new face

I've heard of too many horror stories with CF hoods, and when it happened to me the other week with a stock allroad hood, it was a lot more violent than I would have thought (and I was going 40mph). I can't imagine that happening at 70mph. Get pins.
