    picture of smoked tail lights?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my tail lights are covered in 20% vinyl film right now but I'm going in again this Wednesday to get it darker-about 5%, because I don't like the dark cherry look... really despise the color red.
What I was thinking of doing when I went in though, is cutting out the reverse lights... but I can't seem to find a good picture of it on google or Audizine. Well, I found a couple, but they both had bad lighting. Does anyone have a picture of that look in bright lighting?

is that with 20% there in the pic on your avatar? that already looks pretty dark, you want it darker? or could just be the lighting i guess. do you have any pics of your 20%, i wanted to get like a slight tint on my black A4, the red is cool but i wanted a slightly darker deeper red that would go nice with the black.

you'll find some pics in these threads:

lol it's the lighting of the picture that makes my tail lights dark. I'm on my laptop right now so I only have a few pics. Here's one when they were applying it on. I'll post a better picture tonight.

Thanks for the links by the way! The third one you provided is the closest to one I'm looking for... I just wish his tints were darker so I could see what my car would look like.

Okay, so I found these photos but I can't tell if this person edited his photos really well, or if the reverse lights are cut out.
    What do you guys think?

I've been stuck in traffic or at the stop light right in front of cops a countless number of times but I haven't been pulled over yet. They seem to have gotten pretty lenient, or maybe I'm just lucky (knock on wood). I have 20% tints for my windows all around and no license plate on the front-no fix it ticket for any of those either.
I think it might also have to do with the fact that when I'm braking, the LED bulbs on the Audi tail lights are particularly bright so the red light still shines through the tint?

I heard the LA area is more strict on enforcing laws about mods.

Hmm gives me a little confidence about getting 50% tint all around. I also wanted to do a real light tint on the tail lights but only like 75% something that you can barley tell but makes a slight difference. Mine is BB color btw and I'm in Dana Point.

Don't know if this helps or not - but 17% Laminx, "Smoked," color and I cut out the reverse/signals. The Smoked color is pretty dark, but does have that Cherry color which I like though.

you can get the precut ones from Lamin-X here: http://www.lamin-x.com/Audi-A4-S4-Se...ers-p/a218.htm

or on eBay, non pre-cut but its not too hard to get a rough shape of the taillight and just cut it yourself, cheaper more DIY option. $10 vs $50

I'm glad I didn't go with smoked as they seem pretty dark and that's not what I was going for. I have a set of lamin-x (light) sitting at home and I'm planning on doing the install tonight.
Any advice from those who've DIY'd?

I had a friend of mine help with the Lamin-x install. He actually used a steam gun - heat and water made for a perfect install.

I didn't cut mine out for about 2 weeks - it just didn't seem/look right. I don't know how or why but I summoned up the courage and did it myself. I took masking tape and and created a definite line to cut/follow against with a razor.

What percent are your tail light tints? They look around 20.

the percentages for taillight tints are different than window percentages i believe. I checked the different tints from lamin-x and it seems the higher the number the darker the tint. i want a very slight tint so i think i may go with lamin-x 6% tint. but if i went like 12% for example its darker. maybe its just this way for lamin-x, im not sure

^^ personally not a fan of the blackout, thats too dark for me, but i think it looks awesome when the LEDs are lit though in that last pic.

but i think your before looked better, it was dark but still showed the red at angles and gave it a nice contrast/detail. now its just like plain gloss black almost, you should maybe do the reverse strip cut out? would look good i think and gives it a nice subtle detail.

oh and that german flag badge looks hot, first time i've seen that. might get something like that too.

Careful with the Gunsmoke color - I've heard reviews it has some sort of greenish hue to it. Just FYI.

i legitimately believe if you get rear ended, there will be a strong case against you. and i'm sorry to say it, but i hope there's a case against you should anything happen.

some lady shouldn't be blamed for some hawt tails. i've been behind more than a few people as of late who have completely blacked out their tail lights, some to the point where it's not obvious the person is braking vs. just having their tails on.

i like the look of a darker taillight, and love the look of the tails with the LEDs on. but if i can suggest something, enable via VCDS: "taillights as DRL"

^^ true, but damn dude you dont have to actually hope it happens to him. yes some blacked out tails do block alot of the light, but it depends on the car and its type of housing, halogen vs led, etc. in his case you can clearly see his LEDs are lit even in the sunlight, and when he brakes the brighter brake lights along with the rear windshield brake light will come on so i dont see much of a confusion or light visibility issue in his case

i like the look of a darker taillight, and love the look of the tails with the LEDs on. but if i can suggest something, enable via VCDS: "taillights as DRL"
Audi's LED tail lights are amazingly bright. Already did a check test from 1000 ft away at night and day. You can see both clearly.
Being rear ended is the least of my concerns. If anything, it's a fix it ticket.

lol man I don't hope an accident on ANYONE! but I mean i hope that if something DOES happen (knock on wood) some innocent lady doesn't get pinned on a fender bender because she legitimately can't see them! I've seen many cars with tinted tails that YEP, I can see them. But I saw one truck with it the other day that you absolutely could not tell a diff. between tails on and braking. this has made me worrisome about some of the levels of tinting i see done.

I'm a fair guy, and true the LEDs are way brighter than the shitty halogen ones i've seen people blacking out. I would still advise the VCDS mod to have the leds on as DRLs. I have it on mine just cause I think they look badass 8-) make no mistake, i love the pic with the leds on.

(& for the record, I'm one of the guys who says there's no need to cut around third brake light when getting tint. the light shines through no problem, and I think Cheezy is right - the LEDs are bright enough that it won't warrant an issue. Try this shit with halogen lights and it'd be a deathtrap)

lol i get what you mean. and yeah i know ive seen blacked out tails that u can barely see. this morning actually saw an older Passat and i could barely see the yellow signal light blinking. now THAT guy i hope gets blamed haha

and OP yeah i'd actually recommend you do get the always on DRL tails, because that would keep that sick look on all the time, looks badass and you wont just be driving around with plain glossy black looking tails during the day.
