MY'2013 MMI Navigation Plus -> BT + A2DP is a pure SW option

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just want to confirm there is no need to pay for BT if you buy MMI Navigation Plus for MY'2013

I have just switched it on via Green Menu, both Handsfree and Audio streaming work seamlessly. Also connected my Macbook Air as an audio streaming device to play youtube clips through car's audio :)

Then switched on Car's wlan. Can connect Air and phone and exchange files. Also now at startup it tries to connect to Internet and asks to insert SIM or connect to BT modem and redirects to BT settings. So maybe there is a way to use your mobile as a BT modem and use Google Maps (that are for sure there) without buying this expensive option, need to play with this more.

In our country MY'13 sales started already in January, I was the first in my city.

    Here is the pic.

BTW, maybe it makes sense to check if non-Google cars actually do have SIM slot as well hidden under plastic :)

I thought Bluetooth should definitely work with MMI 3g! Just settings in Green Menu and VCDS 5F - adaption 10 – channel 17 set to 1.
But no A2DP. BTW, in MY'13 you need also switch on AMI and AMI BT in Green menu to have audio streaming working.

Did not get you from the first time. Maybe MMIs prior to 2013 need SW update to include A2DP profile. Also it somehow connected with AMI - I did not get streaming from the first time, checking "A2DP activation" had no effect until I found AMI BT in completely different submenu. Maybe if there is no such option in pre-2013 Green Menu it could be checked via VCDS anyway?

I have a different problem now - when I try to change coding by VCDS, it reports "Coding Accepted", but does nothing - when I read coding again, it is not changed. Maybe the problem is in my cable.

I hope we can tether to our phones for data so we don't have to pay the $30/mo the T-mobile data costs.

    That's not gonna happen.

Unfortunately, T-mobile isn't including Carly Foulkes with the data plan, so my desire to pay them $30 a month is quite low.

He should start up a more generic thread seeing as he's the first person I've seen on any forum with one. I've got a few questions about the car, but don't want to completely sidetrack this thread with unrelated facelift questions.

Where there's a will there's a way. This euro report of it offering to connect to a BT modem is very promising. I am sure they will hide this in the US spec, but people have been known to find hidden features before.

Dude - you're talking about apples and oranges here.
If you mean the Hidden Menu, most ppl don't have that enabled. To most ppl 'green menu' means the Name/Tel section of the MMI.

You're gonna confuse all the newbs.

OK, there is definitely a way to have Google working using your mobile instead on separate SIM. But you phone must support rSAP bluetooth profile.

rSAP is a special profile that makes a "virtual copy" of your SIM for a car-phone to use it, in the same time putting your phone in "flight mode".

The list of such phones is here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=152152.0
Additionally, nearly all HTC and Samsung phones support rSAP if rooted and special application installed.

However I still did not manage how to have Google without paying for Bluetooth :) Maybe some hardware is missing in telephone part - GSM antenna or such. But I will keep trying.

Another find is the car accepts audio streaming via WiFi. When you activate wifi, one more media source appears, a "wifi streaming device". I have not found out yet how to use it, as it easier to connect notebook via A2DP for audio streaming.

Unless I'm missing something... In the US carriers charge for tethering. Even if you don't pay T-mobile directly for the SIM you'll have to pay extra for tethering to your current provider (unless you're already paying it).

Yeah, you have to root your phone. Then the carriers can't tell whether your data is from the phone or a tethered device, which is the way it should be.

This is great info Vi112, keep it coming and thanks for posting on Audizine from Russion. This is my first viewing as well of a MY13 on the streets so if you can recomend any sites to take a peak at for more pictures across the ocean that would be great. I'm waiting for my 2013 so any and all pics and info are good for keeping my mind occupied while waiting. There is no SIM support in Canada as of yet so I am very interested in looking at my options with an rSAP compatible phone that would provide google maps, etc. Sadly, my iphone does not support rSAP and likely never will so I'm gonna be looking at Android if I can get googlemaps without a dataplan in the car. Keep us in the loop on how things go.

Yes, they can tell. I know AT&T has sent letters to people who tether their iPhones without paying for tethering saying stop or we'll move you to a tethering plan. There are at least two ways they can tell.

I have been enjoying Bluetooth streaming in my new Allroad with MMI+. WiFi streaming? Had not seen that one.

I've done a ton of tethering with my jail broken iPhone and now with my galaxy nexus. No complaints/warnings from att as of yet (knock on wood).

Hi! What changes did you do in the green menu to activate A2DP? I had two customer in yesterday with brand new A4 Allroad with the MMI 3G Navigation Plus package. They ordered the cars at the same time at their local dealer and somehow they forgot to order the cars with bluetooth handsfree and A2DP.

I went into the green menu and activated HF and bluetooth, and in the Bluetooth Menu and ticked of the box with the A2DP option. I also entered controller 19 - Can-Gateway using VCDS and ticked box 77 - Telephone.

Then I resat the MMI system, but after reset we only get the phone options to work. We connected with a iPhone5 that is A2DP compatible.

    What am I missing?

For those who wants to know. To enter the green menu it has to ba activated access using VCDS. Controller 5F - Adaption - Channel 6 - Set to value 1. Exit VCDS on old MMI 3G platform press and hold at the same time the SETUP + CAR buttons for a couple on second. For the new 2013 MMI 3G platform press MENU - CAR for a couple of seconds.

But be careful, you can do as much damage as good tempering around in the green menu. I am not to be held responsible for any changes anyone of you choose to make. I have simply told the way to access the green menu!
