I didn't think our radios had codes.. I've had my battery unplugged numerous times and haven't had a problem with the radio...

My default code was 1234. That's what my dealer said was default for all their cars.

Why would a battery change - a necessary requirement after 5 or so years on most vehicles - induce an 'enter radio code' alert?

?? what does this have to do with my question about the radio code ? why does it matter what I do with my car ? Does it make you mad that i change out my battery ? Ever thought putting a lighter race battery since I do track this car beside my race Evo ?

What the hell are you crying about? I was addressing the fact that a battery change out induces an error code re radio code b/c Audi factory coding.
I could care less what weight battery you install for racing. If you are comparing your race/rice Evo - no comment.
    Cheers

    Settle down everyone.

This is a VAG thing. All my previous VW's had this same lockout "feature" if you pull the battery.

He was just asking a question about why a battery change would trigger the code. It seems you are the one coming in here acting like an arse and know it all.

dude chill out, he wasnt insulting you or saying anything negative towards you for changing your battery or needing the code, stop getting so defensive. you prob took it the wrong way, Greg is directing his comment towards Audi in general, the company, not you. he's saying why would Audi make the cars so that changing out battery requires the radio code reset, when changing the battery is a regular thing and would require the radio code each time you replace it.

I re-red it again, sorry if i took it in the wrong way. I'm not defensive, i'm just very blunt, i guess u can blame it on 4 years in the US Marines Infantry. I didn't backfire until he call Lancer Evolution ricer. Anyway thanks for all the help from the Audi community.

2009 b8 checking in. This thread was a great resource preparing for my first round of mods. I had my battery disconnected for a bit when I sent out the ECU. My experience was a bit different from a lot of members and maybe that has to do with my early model year... I guess if you don't replace the battery then you don't have to code with VAG-com? also I didn't need to enter a radio code. I have MMI with nav, if that means anything.
