    B6 Tow hook compatibility

I just bought a B6 and noticed that it's missing the tow hook (the one that screws into the front bumper) from tool kit.

I found a few OEM hooks listed on eBay, are all the VW/Audi tow hooks are compatible though the model lines?

Perhaps I'll just buy one of the colorful anodized ricer hooks and call it a day.

AFAIK they're all the same.. Even most cross platforms. I think a BMW hook will fit into an Audi. I could be totally wrong but I think they're all the same.

I'm trying to remember....but, I think there is a difference. I think the threaded end is different on VW's. Pretty sure I have a B5/B5.5 passat hook laying around here I was going to try and weld a front plate holder to and found it's NOT the same. I bet all similar generation Audi hooks are the same though..

Same here I'd like to do the same. Seems much better than paying $100 for a prefabricated one.

We had to do the run-around at the shop a few weeks ago when we had to pull an Audi TT onto a trailer. The TT hook was long gone. We thought "Surely a B6 hook will fit!". Nope. Not a B7 either. So we put our thinking caps on and thought, "well it's a transverse VW platform, so maybe we're going in the wrong direction here. This Jetta MK5 ought to be compatible then." Nope. "Oh, then SURELY this Jetta MK4 - it's platform-mate - will have a hook that works!" No dice. That one was surprising. Last desperate try was a C5 A6 - SUCCESS! It seems there are at least 3 different versions of these things even between 2000+ VW/Audi stuff. We were quite surprised to find this out.

Wow! That's a big shock actually. As far as the plate holder goes, my buddy made one for very cheap using his OE tow hook for his E92 M3. I'm having lunch with him today, if he is driving that I'll take some pictures of it for ya.

He drove his 190e cosworth instead of his e92 M. (Must suck right) however, I'll tell him to bring the e92 to cars & coffee on Sunday. So I can snag a picture for ya.
