If you don't want your car to be loud, definitely do not do straight pipes.

ECS tuning made strait pipe for the RS4 B7 and for the R32 golf .
monday, I ask them if they were going to make a strait pipe for the S4 B8 (middle resonator delete) .
    So far no answer .

if your going to do a straight pipe, do a Muffler delete, not resonator.. Res delete gives a JDM nasty sound, when you do Muffler delete like i have done myself...it gives a Deep nice tone to it, though i have a B7 S4 and mine is a V8 4.2 considering the fact that yours is a V6, i dont think itlll make much of a difference..i have pictures of mine, my girlfriend did it for me as a christmas gift, and she paid roughly around $400 because the tips were all specially made and the whole pipe system was custom..

I've done the muffler delete....sounds terrible. Do a front resonator delete and it should sound a little bit better.

If you go cheap on an exhaust (loud or tuned or whatever you want) it will sound cheap. THe worst would be to have a car that you hate how it sounds. Do it quality or don't do it at all - or you'll end up spending more trying to fix the mess.

Go to your local exhaust shop remove one set of resonators then replace your mufflers with some magnaflows or something but DO NOT run a straight pipe you'll be miserable.

just take off the exhaust and sell it when you get rid of the car
you will be able to sell it for a good price in the future since they are quality products people are willing to buy in the future :)

Get creative, remove a resonator put in an x pipe and chop the cans off, what I did :) you will love your own "custom" setup im sure! It may cost you 500-600 bucks but it will sound the way you want it to. Play with it piece by piece!

you could do what i did.. i put cutouts where the resonators were and routed the switch under the drivers seat. stock exhaust until i hit the button. fair warning though, it's retardedly loud. the police WILL pull you over if they hear you driving around with the cutouts open

I kind of went the "cheap" route by picking up a Magnaflow... and I can say I understand why the other exhaust systems cost 2k+. Not that the car sounds bad, its just not loud where it needs to be. And man is that drone bad. Between 1500-2000 RPM, I feel like I'm driving a Civic. 2500-6k it sounds good, after that I only hear my Strat intake.

I'm wondering if putting the stock exhaust back on and just splicing the axle-back part of the magnaflow will get rid of the drone a bit. Any thoughts for others that have done custom set ups?

Otherwise, AWE in a few months it is...
