    Cracked coolant reservoir

    Last night when driving home a dash light came on that I didn't recognize so I pulled over to check around under the hood, etc...turns out the light was for brake wear indicator.

    Anyways while looking around under the hood I noticed this....

    Is this common? Its cracked but not leaking at the moment...posting from my mobile so hopefully the pic shows up.

    Mine has tons of hairline fractures. I'm not going to wait till it blows up or whatever so I'm going to do a coolant flush and replace it.

    Seems to be a common problem. I'm on my third one.
    '03 A4 5-MT Motoza tuned Frankenturbo F21L With full supporting mods. Sold (and missed dearly).

    There is a TSB discussing cracked expansion tanks. I don't have the document number handy at the moment. If you have the Bentley, it is included in the TSBs Cooling System subtitle.

    Replace it don't play around with the coolant system. It's such a cheap part why not do it. I got a oem one from my shop for like $30. It wasnt leaking at all just had stress cracks and I didn't like that, plus it looks better. Here was mine

    Save your old one and you can use it to pressure test your reservoir cap.

    Great site, I bought mine from JHM. Any recommendations on doing this job? (replacing expansion tank). Do I need to flush the coolant, are there ways to not flush the coolant? I bought extra coolant just in case. It's my first Audi so I'm somewhat nervous. I want to do it right. Maybe there's a DIY on here....
