Getting a custom tune, things to ask for?

I am getting a custom tune, was wondering if there was anything special I should be thinking to ask for?

One option was coding out EGT sensors.

Definitely coding out rear o2 sensors.

I think on some companies tune there was an option where you could get a different FPR and have a few extra ponies if it was tuned for.

Car has piggy pipes, borla exhaust, kn cold air intake, upgraded diverter valves, boost gauge, and that's about it. It's an auto 2000 tiptronic, however it has the 2001+ intake manifold on it. K03 turbos.

Will be porting the intake and throttle body, next mod is inter-coolers and/or meth but thats a bit down the road and I would just want those two as fail safes

Any other cool options I could have done, either to engine or any other part of the car? EGT off or on?

I'd suggest you skip the porting and put the money toward going straight to IC's. I'm assuming you have stock IC's, so you are going to get a tune that functions with a relatively high amount of pressure loss through the IC and then in the future reduce that pressure loss; I'd think you'll probably be looking at a retune for the new IC's.

I think a custom tune on a k03 tip car is a waste of $$$.. Just get a used Giac chip in the classifieds and learn how to use lemmiwinks. With the money u save , buy a meth kit...

or custom tune with help from nefmoto's website... that was my preference. granted, better support of the 6-speed, but can convert tunes to tip

Not so hot on antilag, trying to keep the turbo's going for a while.

Porting is free as I have all the equipment and know how, I have been doing it over the internet for people for a while. That's going to be a project so I can see first hand how it helps on the S4, if there are gains I will buy a few extra intakes/throttle bodies and put them up on ebay.

The guy is doing a GIAC chip but offering to customize it if there is anything specifically I want it to do, I shouldn't have used the 'custom tune' implying expensive dyno time etc, its on the cheap.

over at nefmoto it seemed like it was more for people wanting to really delve into tuning. I hated tuning carburetors and can't imagine tuning ecu's to be much more fun lol.

Thoughts on de-activating the EGT? His preference was too get rid of them since they are expensive to replace and without the cat's the temps drop quite a bit.

If I do inter-coolers it would be the cheap front mount's (don't want to get into that argument here, got this as a cheap fun car not something to spend a lot of money on and this will never go as crazy as a lot of you guys do) would they really flow that much more then the stock setup to warrant a different tune? My thoughts were that it would just drop the temps and the car wouldn't retard the timing as much after repeated runs and heat-soak.

I have my EGT's coded out - been great so far. I don't run the car too hard on the street, and at the track I run w/m or straight water injection which helps ensure temps stay down (IAT's and EGT's). Sure is nice to not have codes and performance issues with bad EGT's!

LOL there's nothing cheap about these cars and getting a tune for your TIP S4 is asking for not-so-cheap repairs down the road.
Torque converter is famous for crapping out unless PO has replaced it at some point.

Honestly, you're right. They are hella FUN cars and they WILL break at some point.
I don't think I could afford this car -at all- if I didn't do my own wrenching.

Good luck man, just go with a J-Fonz tune and call it a day. They can do everything you're looking for + some.

Haven't taken any car to a mechanic in 10+ years. I do all the wrenching. I am aware of the torque converter issues, I guess it would be an excuse to get rid of the auto lol.

Tell me about the J-fonz tune?
