Noob coilover adjustment question (clockwise or counter-clockwise?)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had a set of ST coilovers installed about a month ago and they have settled a bit too low in the front. So now I want to raise the front up slightly.

To raise the car, do I spin use the coilover wrench and turn clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Also, if I recall correctly for best handling, the rear of the car is supposed to be about 0.5" higher than the fronts, correct?

Also this depends on where your perspective is, when facing something headon like a bolt or lock collar, lefty-loosey will spin the object counter-clockwise TOWARDS you (and therefore away from what ever it was fastened to, there-by providing the "loosey"), while Righty-Tighty will move the object clockwise, and away from you (back towards the object it is threaded into, therefore providing the "tighty"). OP if you are looking at your coilovers, and your forehead is touching the top of the fender lip, and you are looking down onto the lock ring. Lefty-Loosey will rotate the collar counter-clockwise, and therefore bringing the collar CLOSER to your head (but AWAY from the bottom of the coilover body), and therefore INCREASING your ride height as the number of exposed threads at the bottom of the coilover body are increased adding more length and as a result more height.

And that my friends is the most over thought breakdown and explanation of "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey"

I consider myself pretty handy around the house and cars. I asked because as strange as it sounds, I thought I was raising my coilovers, only to see my car was being lowered due to the way the shock body is threaded. I'm going to adjust this weekend and just wanted to ask those who have done it before so I don't have to mount/remount my front tires 5 times to get it right.

Well, on that note, figure I'd remind you that you should loosen your control arms when making ride height adjustments so you aren't over-loading your bushings once you put load back on the suspension. Raising and lowering these cars isn't as simple as others.
