Headlight Help for 2006 A6 Quattro

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone! Recently joined the Audi owners club after my BMW's Transmission died while my wife was giving birth to our son :)

I got a pretty good deal on a 2006 A6 Quattro but it was stuck with Halogen lights. I've looked over the forums quite a bit about HID conversions/retrofits/DIY Jobs and am a bit overloaded. I'd like to get HID lights but would rather not just do the kit in the halogen setups as I don't want my lights to spray and blind people like "That Guy"

I looked for replacement headlights as a start. Can someone tell me why nearly every headlight I find says "Excludes Quattro" What is so different with the Quattro Headlights to where a lot won't fit or install?

Could I buy something like this and then do a HID kit? Would it work without errors? It says will fit the Quattro, but I'm kidnda lost.

    http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-00888145...3661162&sr=8-1

If that won't work, can someone give me some very simple guidance on an easy way to upgrade my halogen lights with HID and still get a good beam?

Also, does anyone in San Diego do this as a part time job that I could just get in touch with :)

    Thank you for helping
    !

not the quattro version of each model

another reason audi should not produce the cvt fwds

Ok so what are the actual differences in headlights between the 2006 A6 and the Quattro version?

    Welcome to the forums.
There is no difference in the light housings. All C6 headlights will fit. The only difference is that there are 3 levels of lights....Halogen, Zenon without adaptive and Zenon with adaptive. You will want to find headlights that are not adaptive unless you want to replace several other components like rear view mirror, etc.
I am in the same boat as you. My 09 has halogen and I am trying to decide what to do. A complete set of non-adaptive headlight housings run about $1500 and you will still need to buy the bulbs and modules which are pricey as well. I am not sure the money spent to do the swap is really worth it. I am leaning toward swapping the bulbs out for Zenon gas filled bulbs or switching to Sylvania Silver Star Ultras. Both give off the true "white" light similar to Zenons and increase the light output as well. I am also looking at adding Slimline LED DRLs into the fog light grills. I can do all of this for less than $500 which is more reasonable.

Thanks for the reply. So when the Spyder headlights with drl say they won't work for quattros it's because why? That's what confuses me. http://www.amazon.com/Spyder-Auto-Bl...3691774&sr=1-1
These work for 2006 a6 but not Quattro models??? It would be great to be able to install something like this with an HID kit and be set.

Really wish there was an easy way to get the hids. I actually did add the led drls but looking to upgrade those to the Philips 8 led drl. Those are much nicer and since they run from battery they come on when you unlock your car :). I'm also looking at the fog light hid kit from oem plus. I just got all my windows tinted and that made a huge difference and got me in the mood to start doing some updates/mods.

Anyone else have a suggestion for a way to get HID lights? How bad do the hid kits look in the halogen headlights? Do they improve the brightness even though they aren't as good as having the projectors?

No experience on swaping Halogens to HID's on any of our 3 audis since they all came with HID's. However, I did buy 3 sets from DDM tuning to give to my sister's Touareg, dad's Sienna and Mom's Camry. The touareg had the best light output. The cut off almost looks factory. No blinding. The Sienna is probably a little high, but we just did a 10 hr long caravan with my bro following me on my Dad's Sienna. It doesn't bother me at all. Looks like a normal headlight.

I got 5000's 35W in all of them. They are way brighter than Halogens - meaning they really light up the road and surroundings. It's almost a safety requirement. After this swap, any car with Halogen feels blind to me.

Well it looks like I might just go for some Ebay OEM projector lights. My question before I go down that road is will that work? I buy the OEM Xenon Projectors and install an HID conversion Kit and voila done? Any thing I have to worry about or do beyond that?

I'd imagine that *could* all be done for sub $800. Installing an HID kit in the OEM projectors will still have a nice clean beam pattern?

    It can be done.
But stick to 6000k as all the stock A6/C6/C7 have.

Couple of last minute questions for all you people way more knowledgeable on this than me. Since I'm looking to go OEM with the headlight Housing, I'm thinking of trying to get the Euro Spec ones. Here is an example set I'm looking at. http://www.ebay.de/itm/Audi-A6-4F-Bi...item4164bd5269
    Question 1
If I order those since they come with OEM Ballast and Bulbs, what else would I need to buy or do? Does it matter that they are Bi-Xenon? Kufatec harness for the 14-10 pin adapter?

    Question 2
If I get a set like these without Ballast and Bulbs but install an aftermarket HID Kit that will work fine correct? 100% plug and play?

    Question 3
It seems like the 2009 A6 Facelift lights are cheaper than the 05-08 lights by a good amount on Ebay.de. If I were to purchase say these for only around $520and again install an HID kit, would that work? http://www.ebay.de/itm/Audi-A6-4F-Fa...item2a1bf97196 Getting the LED to work would be nice too, but my main goal is to get HID with Xenon Projectors and to get rid of my Halogen Lights.

Thanks for the help! If you have a better suggestion to get rid of my halogens and to get xenon projectors I'm all ears. I most likely don't have the tools required to do a DIY retrofit so looking for the absolute easiest Plug and Play replacement for the cost.

So I have these in my cart about to purchase, can anyone let me know if this will work? Looking to buy Left and Right and then put an HID kit in them.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Audi-A6...sories&vxp=mtr

It's a price I can live with. With these I would just need the HID kit and good to go?

These are auto leveling headlights, for them to work properly you need the sensors for the front and rear suspension and the steering angle sensor (which may already be on the car) as well as the control unit for the motors and all of the associated cables. Without these the lights may end up pointing in some odd direction. Perhaps you could aim them by moving the motors manually and the use some epoxy to lock them in position.

Also note that these are probably the bi-xenon lights which use a motorized flap to uncover the top of the output beam when you switch to high beams, this is much different that what you have now which turns on a separate bulb for high beams. This is probably a different controller.

If you get them installed and they work, let us know how you did it. There are others on the forum that would like to do this conversion.

Thanks for the Reply! Well that's a step back..I'm trying to just be able to purchase OEM Xenon Headlights and put an HID kit in it and have much better light than my Halogens. It sounds like the absolute simplest solution...however it proves to be difficult at the least.
