    Tiptronic B7 tuning questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a B7 with 76,000 that I just changed the timing belt on and is Automatic... I want to tune it and I am in love with it, but the only thing I would change about the car is it's automatic. I know I'm never going to do a tranny swap because, lets face it, that's no one's cup of tea lol.

my question is should I keep tuning it or just keep until I can afford the S4 that I really want ;)... I did a dyno the other day using vag-com and maths and these were my results
(engine power. not at the wheels)

max HP 271, max Torque 255.

    Hi,

First off, if you are using the word 'Tiptronic' you are infering that your B7 is indeed a Quattro. If your car is indeed a front wheel drive, then your transmission is a CVT not a Tiptronic.

Assuming that you are indeed a Tiptronic Quattro B7, and are wondering if it's worth modifying it, then my answer to you is yes.

I have a 2008 B7 Quattro Tiptronic 6 speed and just last week, decided to bite the bullet and got the car relfashed to Stage 2 with a HFC. The difference is night and day. No more stomping on the gas pedal and waiting for the car to move. Acceleration is brutal and very exhilarating.

Your dyno shows that you are putting down 271, and torque at 255...that's weird looks like you are chipped. Stock trim, the 2.0 T FSI pushes out 200 crank horsepower and 207 pounds of torque at the crank.

    Pat

P.S. I am very happy with the stage 2 93 octane.

The REAL tipronic Transmission can handle plenty of power. However the torque converter is its achilles heel. Even at stock power levels it can fail.

Camoto recently had his Transmission Valve Body upgraded along with his Torque Converter by 507 because his were failing. From what he's said its like a whole new transmission and will more than likely stand up to ANY amount of power you can throw at it.

Yes, sorry forgot to mention I am chipped and yes tiptronic quattro. I have modified a little. Chip, and putting Carbonio on tonight/tomorrow morning. I want to go stage 2, but I just didn't know if it was worth it. I also have the GIAC chip does that mean I can't do the APR stuff? I haven't seen GIAC offer anything other than ecu so can I still use their parts?

    thanks for your response.

what exactly does the torque converter do? I think I may be failing due to the fact that it is revving weird and I've read that can be the torque converter

I dont think it's backwards because the vag-com only gives u torque and you have to calculate the hp (rpm*tq)/5252 i believe is the formula i used

Don't do the Carbonio.... unless you want your car to sound like it's having an asthma attack; then it's super cool.

I say definitely do it. Yeah, the tranny can be a little flaky at times with its shifts, but that's what tip mode is for. I'm currently having mine upgraded to RAI's K0R-GT, and can't wait for it!

APR claims 241 and 292. GIAC claims 241 and 282. Your numbers don't make sense. Also sounds like you didn't use a Dyno.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A4-05-0...b71288&vxp=mtr

Could probably get the entire thing for $450-500 which is more than you payed but a much much better upgrade.

The Torque Converter is the unit that allows the engine to disengage and engage with the transmission. It uses fluids instead of clutch disks.

I concur. Water Meth, FMIC or SMIC, HFC and for noise...an exhaust. Don't waste money of a 400$ airbox lol You're just getting ripped a new hole.

The Torque Converter is known for slipping when cold...unless its at full lock. Maybe someday, I'll get it rebuilt by the guys at 517 and then slap on a K0R GT. But then again, I'm better buying an S4 lol

The ZF is rated up to 295lbs. Though it will last up to 150k miles like that. IIRC.

I like the intercooler idea. I did already purchase the Carbonio though so can't do anything about that. I bought it off of jpres for $200 with shipping so I don't know if it was that bad of a purchase. I'll see how it goes. Drove it this morning and all i noticed was the sound. Have heard higher mpg stories, but don't know if I should believe those. Luckily $200 is around the price of a used carbonio so if I don't like it I can sell it for the same or close to the same price. Thanks a lot for all your help guys!

    Correction:
It uses fluids AND a clutch.

    Addendum:
and the stock one that comes in the A4 is a piece of shit.

i think mine is slipping and yes when cold. think I can get a warranty fix on this? how does one prove this to dealer who seems to be blind to EVERYTHING! "oh your car's pistons disintegrated? yea that's normal" I also want to check the cam follower because when under the engine i hear a "tick tick tick" coming from there :-\

Tried. They ended replacing my PCV valve. helped a bit, but nonetheless, it will keep slipping. Change the TC and VB like Camoto did.

Read up on Camoto and Wildcat333's threads. Theres a ton of good info. Also if you suspect your thermostat is faulty, replace that. Mine was bad and when I replaced it, the Transmission began acting normal once the engine was warm. before the fluids never got up tot he correct temps and it was constantly slipping. Now it only does that when cold.
