DSG how to stop the fart sound!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
There has to be some type of mod or silencer to stop this farting sound when under hard load and shifting. Right??? Where is the noise coming from, is it the left over boost being dumped into the exhaust?? All I know is I want to alter that sound since it sounds horrible IMO.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY! Unless you want to experiment with putting a few tablets of BEANO in the gas tank. No exhaust mod will make it go away.

With miltek non-res exhaust the fart has become a mean-assed burble. Actually sounds cool now.

What causes this, boost being dumped into the exhaust or just a timing thing causing the exhaust to make a fart noise?

Boy would this car be fast if it didn't need to drop timing in between shifts

Boost dumped into the exhaust? That's not even possible without a ton of changes to the car, and no reason for a supercharger to do this. Do a little research on DSG, it shifts faster than any human can, *because( of the timing pull between shifts, to allow perfect rev matched shifting. Check the logs for the V-box pulls and look at the accel lines where there is a long pause for shifting in 6MT's compared to the DSG with the smooth curve and zero notable drop in accel during shifts. The timing drops is what gets the engine to spin down fast enough to get into the next gear without clutch slippage.

You can learn to drive it reduced a bit... I pretty much have mine down to where I can make it fart or keep it kind of subtle. If I had my radio on (not blasting) and someone else were in the car, they could not really tell. It is all about the little pedal.

You can hear it clearly in the AWE exhaust video. around .42 and .48 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=r-tSCeTA3jU

Boy so sexy, I'd rather have a ricer blow off valve sound instead of a whoopie cushion sounds. How the hell can I be the only one that wants to get rid of that type of sound just make now sense to me.

Thanks IV6 at least someone agrees with me. Thought there would be a simple mod to redirect to boost by now, guess not. Does anyone know where the boost bypass valve is located, I'm assuming its not an easy mod if no one has done it yet...

It's not boost being dumped that's causing the sound.

Ya know, it's a shame that you didn't actually drive the car before buying (??) one.

It does it because it's rev matching the shift. There isnt going to be a mod to "fix" it because there is no fix. What mod would want to intentionally hurt shift performance?

So the noise we are hearing is not extra boost being dumped? Is there a boost bypass valve on our cars?

According to this PDF on the S4 engine, there is a boost bypass with information on page 21.

In the 3.0l V6 TFSI engine, the control valve control module J808 is used to regulate the charge pressure. It is integrated in the supercharger module and connects the pressure side to the intake side. By opening a bypass
valve, a portion of the air fl ow is recirculated through the open bypass to the intake side of the Roots blower. The bypass valve works in much the same way as a wastegate on an exhaust turbocharged gasoline engine.

I don't know the technical aspects of what exactly the noise is, but something to the effect that the ECU pulls timing, which causes a bit of fuel dump. Think about it, basically you are keeping your foot planted while it does the shifting. There is some speculation that if there was no cat you might shoot flames, ala WRX style, but no proof of that ive seen so far.

As far as the bypass valve, pretty much every boosted VAG car uses a recirculating system, ie; diverter valve, so I would assume yes, but you aren't dumping boost...well you are but that's not what you are hearing.

Well shit...posted while I was typing...lol...what he said about te bypass.

Bingo nice find handruin! I know on the 03 Cobra's there was a boost by pass valve mod, not that I want to mess with this electrical thingy since everything is now controlled with electronics. But it would be interested to know if this is the cause/area where the farting sound is coming from.

The bypass valve works in much the same way as a
wastegate on an exhaust turbocharged gasoline engine.
Tasks of the control valve control module J808:
    – Regulation of the charge pressure defi ned by the
    engine control module
    – Limitation of maximum charge pressure to 1.9 bar
    (absolute)

Do other vehicles that have dual clutch gear boxes also have this fart sound? I've watched numerous videos of the nissan GT-R and I've not heard a signature fart sound come out of its back end. Maybe it's there and I just haven't noticed? Is it just how Audi decided to deal with matching the revs and is there alternative ways of dealing with this for a clean shift?

Most dual clutch cars will to some extent. My GLI, DSG 2.0t, did it as well. Im sure its how zee Germans decided to deal with it. I shouldn't say so unequivocally that you can't get rid of it, but im assuming it would be more work than it's worth in the end. On the tuners side though

It seems to be a pretty complex group of things going on, fuel cut, timing retard, back pressure change, then back on the fuel.

I think it sounds bad ass. The sound of high tech. Now if you fart a lot and on top of that you buy a car that also farts than your wife/GF might look at it as a trend...

Top Gear mentions this at the beginning of the video:

    audi-rs-5-part-2-series-16-episode-5

"Jeremy decides to put the M3 up against the new Audi RS5. The RS5 is 4-wheel drive and has a Lamborghini derived 4.2L V8 – which curiously has a device which fires a drop of petrol into the exhaust when you change gear."

Intentionally pumping fuel with no spark seems like a bad idea. I'm skeptical that's what it is.
