    Correct coding for B7 S4 Brakes?

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I upgraded my front brakes with a set of B7 S4 calipers. Now I want to recode my ABS module to match the brakes. Does anyone know the correct coding?

    0x?xx: Brakes
    1 = C54 (PR-1LZ)
    2 = FN3 15" (PR-1LB/1LE)
    3 = HP2 16" (PR-1LX)
    3 = FNR 16" (PR-1LA/1LG)
    4 = FN3 16" (PR-1LT/1LF)
    5 = Brembo 17" (PR-1LJ)

    That's what I thought it was but I didn't think that S4 brakes were made by Brembo.

    They aren't, but the PR code: 1LJ is the PR code for S4 brakes.

    More Info:

    5 = Brembo 17" (PR-1LJ) - B6/7 S4 brake package
    4 = FN3 16" (PR-1LT/1LF) - 312mm 3.0 front brake package
    3 = HP2 16" (PR-1LX) - 320mm B5 S4 brake package
    3 = FNR 16" (PR-1LA/1LG) - 320mm B7 A4 brake package
    2 = FN3 15" (PR-1LB/1LE) - 288mm B6 1.8t brake package
    1 = C54 (PR-1LZ) - No idea. Whats shittier than the 1.8t brakes?

    NP. I actually just posted it in the B7 section yesterday, not realizing they have a different ABS module.

    I'm not sure it HAS to be done. Honestly, I'm not sure what it changes exactly, but it probably just changes the conditions/parameters in which ABS is ultimately triggered. It could also have something to do with brake proportioning, but I'm not sure. It could also change the pulse length for the ABS pulses since it seems the coding is tied to rotor size. Larger rotors probably have longer pulses than smaller rotors.

    If you want to test it out, try leaving it stock and do a full ABS stop and measure the distance, then do the same with it coded to 5. I'd be interested in the result!

    It's been tried but I'm not sure how successful anyone has been... I tried to recode my ABS module when I upgraded to the HP2s but could never get it to stick...

    FYI in case its not PERFECTLY clear from the other thread:
    The login number is different than the coding number, but you need to make sure you're logging in with the same settings as the coding you are wanting to recode to.

    So, referencing this page: LINK

    My current car is the 1.8t manual so my current coding is: 04275

    If I upgrade to the B6/7 S4 brakes and I want to recode my ABS module, my login is: 09275

    I would then change the coding to: 04575

    I would then recalibrate the steering angle sensor (I've done this before and was successful using the login code but I'm not sure if that is required in this case, I would think it is). Then close the module. Turn the car off, remove the key to be safe, wait 30 seconds to a minute. Turn car back on and the coding should be accepted.

    The coding didn't work for me. When I try to login with 09275 I get an error message that says "No response from controller". Then I have to turn the key to off for VCDS to work again. I am able to login with 09575, but when I try to change the coding it doesn't save it. The soft coding stays at 04275. I'm using a genuine ross tech cable. Any suggestions?

    This is the same thing I had... Even if you run through the correct process the what you want the coding to be does not work. Curious if anyone has really re-coded it with a different brake configuration.

    Correct coding for B7 S4 Brakes?

    Bumping this as I believe I was mistaken. The proper code for the b6/7 s4 brake is most likely te code that says fnr, so option 3.

    Correct coding for B7 S4 Brakes?

    I suspect it has different abs algorithms based on the size of the brake rotors. But I'm not sure anyone knows definitively.

    I would leave the coding alone. I tried coding mine to Brembo awhile back since I have 17Z calipers, the system wants me to run an ABS test, which I have not been able to complete. As a result, ABS and traction control are non-functional till that stupid ABS test completes.

    +1, My B8 brakes make ABS go ape shit under 30 mph the few times I slammed on the brakes to see what they were capable of.

    different ABS modules can only accept specific codings; so not every module can accept all codings. For instance, FWD and AWD B6s use different ABS modules, each cannot be coded as the other. The same holds for the different brake types.

    How did you get the B8 rotors to fit? did you have to use some sort of spacer to get the hat to seat properly? I got a set from ECS by mistake (ordered B7 S4) and could not figure out for the life of me why everything wasnt working.

    B8 S4 rotors DO NOT work on our B6 platform car. You need B7 S4 rotors to work since the hat offset is the same between the B6/B7 platform.

    Maybe i am a bit late but here is the correct process by Ross-Tech... Follow the video instructions and you will be able to change the coding...

    Also, link instructions...

    For what it is worth, My ABS unit was messed up and I bought a used one off ebay and recoded it with the video above. It works perfect and I have had no problems.

    However, I coded it to standard b6 A4 brakes.

    I've had my StopTech 332 BBK on my car for over 8 years and over 200k miles. Never recoded the ABS. Never had an issue. I've done track time, agressive country road driving, and panic stops with no problems. You don't have to worry about recoding the ABS.

    I'm with miktip and cyberpmg.

    Added my b6s4 fronts and b7a4 rears and never bothered recoding. I have zero issues, even when I activate ABS. Brakes work 100%.

    And given the overwhelming sentiment that recoding them doesn't work I'm not really going to waste my time messing with it.
