    2009 B8 A4 Options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am trying to understand the various options for the B8 A4 in North America. For now I have 1 question. Does below car have a single zone climate control? I am coming from B6 where dual-zone is STANDARD, and finding it quite difficult to believe they made that an option 2 generations later?

yes it is single zone since you have base model. i notice you got the sport package too, does it come with power passenger seat? it also does not have rear center console vents, auto lights and wipers, no bixenons, gloss/chrome trim...

yea that is the single climate, dual zone one has two knobs where the AC/heater controls are. and yeah a lot of other options missing on the base Premium model that should just be standard IMO. i would recommend just getting the Premium Plus model, so much more worth it IMO. you get all the little features like the folding seats, dual zone, rear vents, light/rain sensors, etc and then you also get those sexy HID/LED lights (base Premium has regular halogen lights yuk)

Just to clarify, I did not purchase this car. I am looking to upgrade from my current B6. The B8 seems to be options galore so I appreciate all the feedback.

Now the strange thing is this particular car is advertised to be Premium Plus, but second hand dealers frequently get these labels wrong (even intentionally). Nonetheless, it does have a strange combination of options. I do not believe it is the base model based on the following, but I may be wrong.

Has HID/LED front light package. I thought this alone was only available on Premium and above trim.

This is how rear looks like, although unsure if it is split folding seats or not

You could add the headlights onto the Premium as a package, I guess that is what he has done. I thought that also came with chrome trim though?

Definitely is a base quattro Premium model with the sport package though.

Yeah that is a wierd options package. Looks like it has heated seats too. If all you are giving up is the dual zone climate control, I would probably go with it if you are gettting a good deal - manual tranny and sport package are hard to find used for some reason.

How did you guys know it was Sport Package just from the first interior picture? What distinguishes in particular. The 3-spokes steering wheel?

For heated seats, it may be due to it being a Canadian car? Unsure about B8, but for B6 it was part of the Cold Weather Package. Very common in Canada and rather rare in the US.

    Thank you for the information!

I believe the heated seats come standard with the sport package. Could be wrong though. I have a '10 premium w/sport package and have the heated seats.

just to clarify, the base model is called Premium and then the one i was talking about with the options and HID/LED lights, etc that's the Premium Plus (Premium+)

as for the first pic, you can tell sports package from the 3-spoke steering and the seats (sports seats have that part extend forward like that)

and didn't notice you were in Canada, that's why the options could be different, in the US at least we dont get the HIDs on the base Premium model. it's missing all the usual Plus features like the dual climate, no AC vents for the rear, no chrome trim on the side windows, etc. only thing is it has the HIDs, so i can't tell if it was upgraded or i'm just guessing the packages are different in Canada. maybe the Plus model doesnt come with the dual controls and thats probably on the Prestige trim in Canada?

i'd check out the Audi CA website and see the packages

    edit: http://www.audi.ca/ca/brand/en/model...container=page

seems like the HIDs are standard on Premium and Premium+ in Canada. Premium is the lowest trim here in the US, we dont have the Basic trim here. but i guess it could be P+ trim with diff packages added

If your spending the money don't go cheap, spend a few K more and get some great options. Believe me I'm holding out on my B8 till I find one with the exact options I want.

American & Canadian packages are different.

Canadian cars can be built with a-la-carte options, including xenons. This is why you are getting conflicting information from various parties - including the posts in this thread. You're gonna be chasing your own tail for awhile if you want an official package name.

at a glance, this looks like a premium with two options: sport package (MSRP at the time: $1200) and xenons (MSRP 2009@ $900 / 2010@ $1000).

very similar to my '10, but i don't have sport package.

they have shuffled some things around since '09 & '10, so that's why the audi.ca builder is hardly any help.

I've been shopping around recently. From what I understand for the 2012 model you can get the base Premium package with the Style Package, which includes xenon headlights. (This is almost what I ended up with.) But I don't think you can get the Premium package with the Sports Package, which this one looks like it has. Maybe you can in Canada? Not really sure. And I'm not sure if different package combinations were available for the 2009 model.

Problem with checking out the Audi CA site is that it only displays the options for 2012. And the options changed since 2009 (what is standard vs optional).

Not quite spending. To be honest my budget was geared towards a B7 which I was casually looking for. Again waiting for the right one with the right options. I discounted B8s but I didn't realize how much the price of B8 has fallen (especially the early 2009 ones). This particular car is listed for $21k. It has 78,000 kms (48k miles). For Canadian prices, quite cheap for a B8, given you'd have to spend ~$15k for a nicely equipped B7.

That's a good price and I'd snap it up if I were you - I don't know how it is in your market but in mine a manual tranny and sports package is really really difficult to find used.

If you decide to go with a B7 I'd recommend a 2008. It comes standard with S-line trim and has the upgraded diverter valve already installed. The B7 has only two engine "issues" to my knowledge: cam follower problems (get the cam follower replaced at 50 or 60,000 miles and you should be fine) and carbon build-up. You'll probably want to factor in a full carbon clean every 100K miles which is probably $300 - $500.

Honestly I'd save and get the B8 if I were you - it's a much improved platform. I'm biased because I just upgraded to B8 from B7, but the B8 is a much better car. It handles a lot more nicely, has better options, the camshaft issue has been fixed, and from what I can see they fixed/improved the carbon build-up issue as well. As long as you don't get unlucky with a lemon it's a very nice, fun to drive, reliable car.
