    B6 Roof Rack Options. Searched.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have searched and searched and searched and to no avial. Are there any options to spending 450 plus on a roof rack and fairing? I ski in the winter and bmx in the summer and a roof rack would be soo nice. I was wondering if there are any towers or other racks that i could modify from other cars to fit mine? Whispbars are what i really want because of their sleek look. But overall i want a sturdy roof rack that i dont have to spend everything i have on. Damn minimum wage and highschool.

Whispbar brand new can be had from ORSRackdirect.com for 363.00 shipped, where I got mine.

OEM Thule base bars are always popping up in the Classifieds, I think their is a set for sale now.

Search my threads. I modified a set of passat bars to fit my car for under $150.

They are not as low profile as whisps, but alot cheaper, and with the oem look.

Roof racks pop out here and there on the classifieds very often. I bought mine for 150 BNIB, OEM rack of course, and attachments make the price go up there in the 400 realm (bike attach. fairring, cage, box etc.)

yes it is TRUE!! how do I know? so my roof racks with snowboard attachments I get about 18-19 mpg. Took the snowboard attachments off, I got about 21-23 mpg. Finally took off everything now getting 27-30 mpg It make a hell of a difference all these numbers I am putting up is based on my dash average mpg btw

    I can confirm that too.

Around town, where wind resistance isn't a factor its not a big deal (Wind resistance grow exponentially with speed, not linearly) you wont see much of a MPG hit, but you'll see a bit. Cruising on the highway is where you'll see the major drop. Right now with my between-the-bar low-profile whispbar setup on my avant I am averaging roughly 20mpg (80% city driving). This is with the bars AND my cheap Yakima Aero Ski clamp. If I take the holdown off I bet my MPGs would be roughly even with a bare roof, since the Whispbars are extremely aerodynamic, and the between the bars setup is the lowest cross-section you can get on a rack.

they are made for a passat, but with a little cutting and drilling they will fit the B6 A4. They were insanely cheap on ECS a while back, but they are back up to normal price I believe. Still probably cheaper than OEM Audi bars, tho.

Im actually selling my Yakima rack with fairing, two bike attachments, and two thru axles if you're interested... (and since you have a b6 A4 you won't need to buy new Q clip for $70). Lemme know.

I don't know if it's still avaiable but EVOski had the hookup on getting discounts for Whispbar racks.

Go to the Yakima site to find your rack. Then go to find an online retailer. From there choose I believe it was OSIR Racks. You'll get like 10% off for going to them as a "referral" or something like that. Then he had a coupon code for another 5-10% off. It saved me about $50-75 when I bought a set of Whispbars for my Avant
