    Anyone running 255/40/19 tires?

    Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone on here was running 255/40/19 sized tires. I checked Miata.net's tire calculator and confirmed it is only 3.9% off from stock and will make the speedo 2.3 mph off. HOWEVER, it will make the sidewall 0.5 inch thicker providing more protection and getting rid of a little bit of wheel gap. It's barely more expensive than 255/35/19 tires so i figured why not. I don't want to risk damaging my new wheels so i figured the little extra bit of rubber may do some good.

    Thoughts?

rubbing would depend on width and offset of your wheels

    Would be too tall IMHO.
    You could try 245/40/19.
On of the s4 guys did it for winter and it didn't look great.
    He had bbs wheels too.

I run 245/35/19 and it's been good for NYC roads....

do u know which S4 guy? all the threads i could find were for B7s. it didn't look too bad, imo. this will be on a 10" wide wheel so i didn't want to get 245s.

I've always been advised to stay within 3% of OEM tire diameter, so 3.9% would get the from me. Properly inflated 255/35/19 tires have always protected my wheels nicely.

    he's running 255/35/19 Proxes 4

the roads by me are pretty bad in certain areas. potholes that would make your bumper scrape if you fell into one. the increased sidewall would also reduce my wheel gap a tiny bit

    Here you go man....
Forum member DATZ ride with 245/40/19.
Seems to have more wheel gap then on standard 255/35/19 tires.
Must be the fact the car sits higher with those tires....
255/40/19 would be even higher than this...

Not looking great IMHO. You'd achieve the same look with 18's and 245/40/18... :)

Looks seriously out of proportion, not being lowered enhances effect IMO.
Add that will negatively impact actual mileage reading - wouldn't do it.

wow, at stock height and those tires, the car sits so high. the wheel/tire ratio looks more proportional with the 40 series tire to me, though.

i'll need to think about this some more. those pics definitely helped though. thanks for digging them up

In just worried you can't fit the 40 profile on your super sport springs

These are 255x30x20 w/stasis suspension. Rubbing will be determined by lots of factors. current suspension height (stock/OE sport/aftermarket sport/stasis in my case/ etc). planed suspension height. How much junk including people you tend to carry. Rim back spacing and width.

Maybe I'm slow, but what does your post have to do with his proposed tire size?

This set-up does look like it would dominate in the snow though! I live on CO and ski almost every weekend and was considering this same set-up for my B8 A4 with stock suspension (looks like you could fit monster truck tires under there with the stock suspension). Probably doing coilovers in the summer because car looks not so good with stock suspension and 19's. But as far as winter goes I thought a little extra tire to handle huge pot holes and everything else mountain driving includes would be a good thing. Will this really effect the ABS and other sensors enough to cause a noticeable problem?

If dealing with frequent snow do yourself a favor and don't drop it. I run stasis springs and had to replace underbelly due to ice and snow
