Caught DSG in neutral while driving... anyone else with this issue?

Searched but doesn't look like anyone has my exact issue. When I'm coasting towards a turn, in 'D' in 3rd or 4th gear, when I resume accelerating during the turn or just before the turn, the engine revs as if transmission is in N. When I let go of the throttle and resume accelerating, DSG is in the correct gear. I've noticed this about 3 or 4 times since getting the car in May 2011. Twice before ECU tune, twice after, most recently this morning. Am I just catching the DSG at a in-between time where its not sure if it's supposed to downshift or upshift?

With all the talk of TD1, I am not going to the dealer until I can figure most of this out by myself :-)

Hmm, I haven't experienced this with mine. Always when in 3rd or 4th, no other gears produce this?

Yes... only those 2 gears. Has never happened when accelerating from a stop or when using M or S mode.

IF it isn’t your clutch, which it shouldn’t be unless you are really hard with it, this is a standard DSG/Dual clutch issue. I had a MKV R32 with the 1st gen DSG and it would do the same thing, the trans is trying to predict what you are going to do next based on a bazilion parameters like acceleration, gas and brake petal percentages, angles and a entire menagerie of black magic. My solution, always drive in manual unless stuck in traffic. PS I highly recommend the HPA flash, it increases the launch control RPM and wouldn’t shift until I did in manual mode.

Thanks. That's reassuring that you've seen it. Although I had the DSG in my A3 but never experienced this quirk.

Sorry about the flash thing, Im not up on the S4 DSG stuff. BUT just so you know, it is a must have! My R32 was a beast with the incresed RPM launch (4500), extended trans red line to match the APR flash redline. Other wise the car weas stock and ran 13.5s.

SOUNDS SIMILAR TO MY PROBLEM! http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ng-Need-advice

I had this happen the other day. I was in a turn coasting, go to put on the gas, and the rpms just shot up without the car accelerating.

Yes that's it - exactly as you described, except, I don't have any issues with braking. Soon as I let off and accelerate again, DSG is in gear. I'll scan tonight and check for any faults in the transmission. This has happened before though, and I've scanned the entire car a few times since then, but no codes showed up.

I've had this problem with my 2010 for awhile, tiptronic mode, in 5th take corner let trans downshift into 4th apply power. Will rev until you force it into drive, downshift on your own or wait it out.

I have a thread somewhere around here about it. No reflash, audi found no problem. Started before the tune and never any codes.

I had this exact same thing happen to me once, about a month ago. I was in D and dynamic, spirited driving but not pushing hard, braking to make a 90 deg right hand turn, and when I got back on the gas halfway through the turn, the rpm just zinged up like it was in neutral. I looked down quickly and grabbed the shifter thinking I had somehow knocked it into neutral, but it was still in D. I tried giving it gas again as I rolled away from the turn, and it engaged smoothly pulled away fine. Really odd, there was no clunkiness or strange sounds or anything. Hasn't happened again and the tranny has been great.

Car has 5k miles, has been tuned since 3k, but I highly doubt this is tune related.

Similar situation. I have DSG, and had 2 incidents.
1- Downshifted 4-3 in a turn, lost power and stalled.
2- Downshifted 4-3 making turn, go to step on throttle, nothing. Revs to 3k and nothing. I'm now coasting from turn. Depress accelerator multiple times before it wakes up and resumes as if nothing happened.
Dealer found 2 fault codes for G71 Pressure Sensor. Opened tech case and was authorized to replace G71 Upstream Pressure Sensor. Happened with 12,500 on odometer, now at 19,500 with no issues.
Of note, never had cel from these 2 incidents.
    Edit-Always drive in Dynamic mode

LOL, I wouldn't call this common by any stretch.
