Anybody curbed the detachable ring that's on the BBS CH-R?

my best guess is that they do not make it so you can just replace one piece - unfortunately i think you will have to buy a new wheel =(

i am getting my CH's installed this Tuesday - can't wait! i just got the plain silver though, i don't want to get the black ones until i need to get new tires and i can get the 19''

i think you have to heat the stainless lip, there are replacement ones, but I don't know where you can get them.

Thanks. Yeah I purchased them from Tirerack so I just sent them an inquiry about replacement rings.

For the other reply - the wheel is actually advertised as having that outer ring be removable and replaceable. It's a feature of the wheel to minimize damage from idiots like me curb rashing the wheel.

They're replaceable rings that use double sided tape. Easy to remove and replace. Contact any bbs dealer

I purchased them for my B5 S4 and the shop tried to remove them so they could paint them Matt black.

They has such an impossible time removing them that they ended up returning them and replaced them with powdercoated CH's!

Piece of cake to repair. Get the ring good and hot and peel it off. Clean up the residue and smooth out the damaged rim surface. New ring comes with auto tape preinstalled, just peel off the backing and press fit. The chrome ring is concave and is a precise fit for the rim.

Takes a little effort to pull them off, but that's a good thing or they would spin off when you heat up the wheels at a track event

Tirerack folks ended up getting back to me. It is indeed a special order item from BBS that they can get for you. Around 80$ and backordered with no ETA.. Still cheaper than a new wheel or wheel repair. Not complaining (until I witness first hand how hard it is to remove the broken one :))..

Here's a thought, I wonder for certain rims if you could add a set of these for the added security without them looking "off". If lips on certain wheels had space for them and it looked clean, I'd do it for $200. They could also be powdercoated too i'd imagine. To have a lip smoothed out on a curbed rim usually cost $100-150, if it can be done. Just a thought.

On wide rims this would make sense. But depending on the tire and the rim width, the tire may already act as a protector. On my 19x8.5 wheels with 245/35R19 Pilot Super Sport, there is plenty of rubber further out than the edge of the rim.

I would like to know this as well. If they look nice, I want to put these on my gloss black forgestar f14s so that it matches the chrome window trim. Has anyone done anything like this before?

...also you cannot retro fit a rim guard onto another BBS wheel unless said wheel was made for it (like the CH-R) The wheel face has a built in groove on the outside for the concave lip guard to sit on. With out this groove, the guard cannot adhere to the wheel as the adhesive is up inside the guard....
