help me with vibration, 5 mm spacers, hub rings 66.6 to 57.1mm

    hey guys,

so i went out and got myself some 2011 A4 wheels, thinking this would be a nice subtle OEM upgrade to my stock 17s. The old wheels are 17x7.5et45 and the new ones were 18x8et47 so i figured that is pretty darn close and should fit just fine. Now the other thing i didn't know is the fact that these are 66.56mm hub while the 2003 a6 i have is a 57.1mm hub. I also went from 235/45r17 to 245/40r18 tires, which maybe if i hadn't gone wider would have saved me from needing spacers.

Once the tires were put on the rims they scrubbed on the upright, so the tire shop said i need to either grind the upright or get spacers to make them fit. I went out and got some 5mm spacers and was able to fit the wheels and no more rubbing - yay!. now the problem was that above 45 mph i had a shaking issue. The local tuner shop where i got the spacers said i need to get hub rings as that is probably the reason i am shaking. I went and got some plastic hub rings and the shaking was reduced, but still noticeable at 50 mph+

I have now dug myself in 200$ with the spacers/longer studs/hub rings and am wondering if i am just screwed with these wheels.

TL:DR: Are there 5mm spacers with 66.56mm to 57.1mm hub rings integrated in one? That is probably what i need. Has anyone here had success with 5 mm spacers AND hub rings? My plastic hub rings sit pretty deep in the wheel so that might be one reason they are not lining up on the wheel right. Should i get some metal hub rings like these?

or would going with a custom spacer/hub ring combo like here work

thanks for any input, i'm getting ready to rip my hair out..

here's a pic after i lowered it off the jack stands, the suspension doesn't actually sit that high after u drive it around the block.

I don't think you'll find hubcentric rings incorporated into a 5mm spacer, but you may be able to get some custom made. You could try the metal hubcentric rings, although I don't know if that will make a huge difference. I've used multiple plastic ones and have not had issues.

i did same thing but other way around, ordered 57.1 for 66.6 hub, so i had CNC shop bore out the hole. They did amazing job, no problems at all. But while i was in process i found website/company that makes custom adapters to order, i dont remember the name, google can help. They seemed pretty reputable.

H&R makes hub adapters with a 57.1mm inner bore and a 66.56 mm "hubcentric ring" on the outside in 5mm, 8mm, and 10mm thicknesses. All 1 piece machined aluminum. List is $159.95-pr, we have them for $123.16-pr but currently only have the 8mm size in stock.

    hey guys

just to post an update, the custom spacers from motorsports-tech worked and made the wheel fit really snug. These are probably the same as what H&R offers. The only downside of the motorsports-tech was that it took over 2 weeks to make/get them, so if you're in a hurry go with H&R.

now i need to figure out what center caps work, the ones from ebay are a tad bit too small.
