SHRINKWRAP SHIFT KNOB
This is a simple DIY for making an old ripped leather shift knob look brand new again, all you need is electrical rubber shrink wrap ( 1-1/2 inch diameter works best because its snug ), a heatgun, flathead screwdriver, knife, and 10 minutes max.
Step 1: The shift knob unscrews from the shifter, simply grab it and twist it counter-clockwise, when it is off this is the starting point

Step 2: This is the package of electrical shrink wrap, its only a few dollars

Step 3: Use a flathead screwdriver to Pop off the top of the knob with the numbers, and peel off the leather, the bottom should slip off with the leather or pop it off with the screwdriver

Step 4: Align the ridge on the knob with the fold of the shrikwrap, this is only for cosmetic purposes, simply turn out looking nicer

Step 5: Set the heatgun to the lowest (least powerful) setting and from about a foot away heat the area evenly, all around the shift knob

Step 6: Use an knife to cut out the extra material from the top and bottom of the knob, leaving about 5 mm extra from the lip (picture is before cutting)

Step 7: Pop on the bottom (chrome) plastic and the top (shift pattern) cap

Step 7: Put the knob back on the shifter and twist it clockwise until its tight and the shift pattern is aligned ( the flash made it look like its faded but its really pure black )

You should now have a new looking shift knob does not slip in the hand, these instructions also apply to other similar shift knobs
