    2013 S4 vs 2013 S5

So should the 2013 S5 be faster around the track than a 2013 S4? My previous B8 S5 was great, but handling felt a little heavy. I wonder if the weight change between the V6T and the V8 is going to make that big of a difference handling wise. Speedwise, V6T with chip will already be faster than the V8.

    2013 S5

245 kW (333 PS) bei 5500-6500 min -1 kW (PS) bei min -1
    0-100 km/h - 4.9s
    Empty weight 1750 kg
Perm. Total weight of 2175 kg
Perm. Roof load / trailer nose weight in kg 75/80

    2013 S4

245 kW (333 PS) bei 5500-7000 min -1 kW (PS) bei min -1
    0-100 km/h - 5s
    Curb weight 1780 kg
Perm. Total weight of 2255 kg
Perm. Roof load / trailer nose load 90/80 kg

Tough call. I find the S5, with the V8, is more of a cruiser than the S4. Now that both cars have the supercharged V6, I would still think the S4 may be a tad quicker around a track but not by much.

Why would it be quicker? Its 30kg heavier and has the exact same engine and driveline.

Weight distribution is the same on both. S5 has slightly wider track. If anything the S5 will be faster.

seems to me like the weights are erroneously typed in, I find hard to believe that the 2013 S5 will be lighter than the S4

Yeah, I don't get that either. In reality, they will be nearly identical, with the S5 being at most .1 seconds quicker.

I think it's down to the individual driver, conditions at the track, and if you have a nice tail wind.

You think the same basic car, but with 2 less doors would be heavier? Nothing was typed in erroneously.

I heard the S5 will be two seconds faster. One second less for each door removed. So 0-60 on the S4 should be 5 seconds and 3 seconds on the S5.

LOL another S4 vs S5 thread. The S5 will smoke the S4 if I'm driving LOL. I don't agree the S4 will be any faster. Both the S4 and S5 should be almost equal with the same engine. However, the S5 has a wider body and sits lower than the S4, so in the twisties that will be an advantage.

Once the S5 got the sports differential, it evens the score. Having driven an S5 without the sports diff, and then with an S5 with the sports diff was like an entirely different car. Of course, an S4 without the sports diff vs. an S5 with one will get devastated in the twisties and curves. But truthfully, these cars are probably 0.1-0.3 seconds apart. Even the V8 S5 has 13.0 - 13.3 seconds quarter mile and so is the V6 S4 - really depends on the driver and real world conditions. For example, if I were alone in my S5, which I normally am, and an S4 driver was with his fat 200 lb wife, and asked me to race. Then I would smoke him, cuz he has 200lb extra baggage.

Overall, I was just wondering if the S4 would have a stiffer body than the S5, and if that would affect handling? Anyways, I'm going V6S with a chip over picking up an used V8 and adding a SC. V8S would be sweeet tough.

Are they doing something different with the ECU tuning of the V6T to make the constant HP powerband 500 RPM shorter (6500 vs 7000 for the S4) or is that a typo?

Now that the 2013 S4's and S5's are arriving stateside, and new thoughts on this? Or test drive experiences? Would be great to know the performance differences, even if slight, between the two...
