Audi Pure Protection - Which Plan?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Once again, I come to you for advice.

I am trying to determine which Pure Protection policy I should get. At this point, I am not sure what the costs of each are (dealer says there are 7 options for each plan, so they want me to narrow down to what I want before quoting).

    Here is the info:

    http://eckemoffllc.com/wp-content/up...arranty-p1.pdf
    http://eckemoffllc.com/wp-content/up...arranty-p2.pdf
    http://eckemoffllc.com/wp-content/up...arranty-p3.pdf

I am quite frankly not sure as to what I should be most concerned about. Naturally, the powertrain, however is there anything in any of the higher tiers that jumps out at you? What tends to go bad quicker on this vehicle?

Thanks as always for your help!

If you had some numbers that might be a bit easier to determine if the costs are worth the benefits. Personally I like to go with the best warranty coverage offered considering the price of parts and labor for vehicles out of warranty. Suspension and steering have been an issue on my old B7 but I got rid of it in time to not have to really worry about it. One other nitpicky issue I have is that exhaust is never covered, which would have saved me from having to buy a new downpipe and flexpipe.

When I bought this for my '08 B7 2 years ago, the Gold Plus at 4-year 40,000 miles was the sweet spot in terms of price vs. what you get at about $3,100 total for that. Keep in my mind that the Audi Pure Protection is usually farmed out to a 3rd party company, for me it was Fidelity National Warrantly. I cashed in the remainder of the warranty when I sold the car, you can get the pro-rated remainder of the policy back at any time (at least if you are in CA anyway).

In retrospect I would have just saved the cash for any repairs and not purchased it, but I perhaps I was lucky to have zero issues with my B7 A4.

Check out FD Warranty, they sell the same Pure Protection warranty that your dealer sells.

Am I reading this right that it is 7 years total (meaning 7 years from the day you bought the car) and 100,000 miles (meaning 100,000 miles from when you bought the car?

So option one offers you 50,000 more miles and/or 2 years more than the original warranty?

    Mehh...

I bought an extended warranty on my SAAB 9-3 convertible and used it for like 400 bucks worth of repairs. I paid like 1900 for the warranty. I put SAAB in the same category as an Audi in terms of "my God I don't know what the bill will look like."

I didn't buy an extended warranty on my wife's Trailblazer clone and over 85,000 miles of driving we spent $800 on repairs post warranty period. If I spent 2 grand on an extended warranty i'd have wasted 1200 bucks.

Honestly, I just don't believe in these plans for me. The "what if" for me isn't worth nearly 3 grand. 3000 dollars (plus add the 100 deductible) is a lot of repairs, even for an audi. And then consider what they don't cover.

To each his own. It just isn't for me.

Hey, I have a 9-3! Great car, damn shit has so many problems though.

By the way, I was in Costa Rica / Nicaragua for Christmas, and now I know where Saab has been up to - every single danged huge truck had a Saab-Scania decal!

I agree the Extended Warranty is a crap shoot at best. If a major issue occurs post factory coverage, you win and you'd be smiling. If you have no issues, you'll feel like a fool. I spent almost $2K for 100,000 mile/$0 deduct GMPP extended warranty for my new bought 2008 Suburban XLT. So far, no significant issues. I don't feel that bad (yet), because I have 55,000 miles remaining on the extended warranty. One thing I would highly consider is a zero deductible (if APP offers). I have had to go in to get a number of door locks and the like replaced. If I had a $100 deductible, all those repairs would have been out of pocket. I haven't decided on en extended warranty yet on my new 2012 A4, but I am considering one.

One important thing to note, I believe you have 10 months or so and I believe 10,000 miles to buy the plan and they consider the car "new". In my Suburbans case, I waited until the last week of the time my vehicle was considered "new". Because of that, my 100,000 mile warranty was actually 109,450 miles (because the car had 9,450 miles when I bought the warranty. The 100,000 is added to the current mileage. To me that extra 9,450 mile coverage might be where the engine/transmission blows up. I'd ask fd-warranty how old the car can be (miles/months) to still be able to buy a new car plan, and ask also of the warranty starts at the current mileage.

If you're buying used I definitely think theres a benefit to buying an extended warranty. When I bought my old B7 I had to get my engine replaced and the extended warranty saved me $10,000. However if you're buying new I think as long as you take good care of your car you can save yourself from having to buy it.
