Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My rear brake pads wore out last week and I need a cheap replacement for OEM. I found these rotors for $39.99 and pads for $24.99. I have to have a cheap set cause I'm in between jobs right now. Thanks.

You probably wont even be able to see your wheels with how much dust those things are going to put out, are those even semi-metallic at the least?

Cheap rotors can heat easily and warp, cheap pads sqeak, dont last, quicker fade, dust, etc.

Duralast rotors like to get a nice coat of rust everywhere the pads dont rub. I have some on my sentra and they look crappy.

No, there is nothing wrong with them. Rear pads are fine, they only do 30% of braking anyhow. Do a search on AW, some people have used their rotors/pads for the rear and they're fine. It's not like they fail (otherwise I'd doubt they would still be selling brake components) and its only the rear.

You want to have the nice brakes for the front where most of your braking happens.

They put out less dust than OEM, that's for sure. Nothing beats OEM for dust.

I got Bendix rear pads for my A4. They were $50 though.

And they are a million times less dusty than the OEM's.

i put a pair of rear pads on and the metal shims literally fell off 3 of the 4 pads and caused horrible squeaking. I tried to repair with no luck. Just tossed them and got oem pads. Lesson learned.

When it comes to brake pads and "everyday wear and tear" item like that. Autozone/Advance/whatever is the place to go. As long as you spring for the higher end part (like Bendix) the quality is great. My Bendix rears that i got from Advance dont squeel AT ALL and put out FAR LESS dust than the shitty OEM ones.

If the rest of cars on the road can get brake pads from stores like this, our Audis are no different. Sorry to bust the bubble, but regular-consumer brakepads are a fairly simple design and they are the pretty much (to an extent) the same from car to car

**When it comes to something engine-wise or electrical or something like that , THEN there is nothing better than OEM

    duralast ftw.
nothing wrong with those pads. i've used em on every car i've had. might let out some dust, but if you cant afford ceramics/high quality, they get the job done and come with a warranty.
stay away from bendix however, those are trash.

Speaking of tires and cheap. That made me think. That could be a bit dangerous. Are general uhp tires pretty good? I'm worried now.. They are only 35 series tires in the front? And 30 series in the rear.

Sorry to the OP for the off the subject convo.

Yep, the Generals are very good for the price. I've got them on now and they stick to the road in the wet/dry, no problems.

As for the General Exclaim UHP-
I run a set of 235/45R17, and they are great, I'm very happy with them.

Tirerack had them for cheap, and they had the #1 rating by far in their catagory, with shitloads of reviews to get the rating.

The only issue I'd point out is the seriously soft sidewalls.

On my automatic 3.0, and it's DD duties, that's no big deal and most of the time actually a good thing for the ride quality. I have to say tho, if I had these same treads on my GTI, I'd be pissed. But then, the GTI lived to be thrown into the corners...

Whatever, I'd buy em again for this car.

    Tirerack Link> clicky clicky

hmmmm, appears that even almost a year later they are still number one in the UHP Summer category
