Deleted my two resonators and unhappy so now I have a muffler question

I brought my car to my exhaust guy who did an awesome clean job of taking out my two resonators and matching up the 2.5'' exhaust with a straight pipe. I kept the stock muffler on for now figuring just removing the resonators would give it a deep rumble nothing crazy. However the car under load <3k rpms sounds really loud, raspy and ricey IMO, after 3k it sounds great. Now my question is changing up the muffler with a magnaflow or borla turbo muffler help with this sound? or will it make it worse, not sure if the extra air flow will cut out the raspy sound or increase it.

Anyone have experience with this? It seems like I should of only removed one resonator for the suddle sound I was trying to achieve.
    TIA

    EDIT:

So I took some helpful advice from you guys and purchased a vibrant high flow res, it came really quick to my house and installed it today. The finish of the product was a A+ and the inside finish was a A so I give it a really good rating. Just like I was told it's small but it definitely did the job, my car sounds amazing now, no more nasty high pitch gargle more of a deep performance sound. Very happy, as soon as my Magnaflow muffler arrives I'll have my exhaust guy put it on with some nice tips. Over all I didn't spend too much I would of saved if I wasn't impatient and got everything installed at once. I was planning on taking some pics of the install with my iPhone but I left it in my cabin and realized after the car was already up on the lift. I'll try to remember when I get the muffler installed. I'll also write up how much it cost me exactly and some sound clips. There is already a performance gain from removing the two resonators and replacing it with one high flow one for sure. Obviously replacing the whole exhaust with a full Magnaflow exhaust kit or APR kit is much more desirable but for my needs this was way more cost effective and got the end result I wanted.

Different mufflers won't help much, the lack of resonators is what is causing the obnoxiously loud, raspy and unrefined sound.

Does it matter what resonators you remove? like if i were to remove the first but leave the second vs. remove the second and leave the first?

I'm not exactly sure the difference between the two OEM resonators. Given that the center is the one that all the catbacks replace, I'd put the OEM downpipe resonator back then try an aftermarket resonator or glasspack in the center. I'm guessing that might give you something in between stock and what you're dealing with now. Maybe replace the OEM muffler to go louder and with less restriction.

I have a 2004 R32 and I took the resonator our also and just went straight back to the stock muffler.. It was just like you explained.. raspy and loud... I delt with it for like a solid year just hoping it would go away haha.. anyway.. I decided to install this resonator . http://www.amazon.com/Vibrant-1792-B...819031-6120959

it sounds great now.. it completely took away the raspyness .... it is still louder then stock for sure but just sounds soo much cleaner then the straight pipe.... That link is really just to the bottle style vibrant resonator.. you will have to check the website for the exact style number with the correct size .. I believe I did the 2.5inch by 12inch.. It really is a small resonator but really helps with the rasp.. hope this helps

I'm going to try this or at least put one of my resonators back because it's only been one day and I can't stand it lol. Thanks!

Did you remove the first one by down pipe or second one by muffler?

Anyone else planning on removing their resonators have 1 aftermarket one ready to install or just remove one of your stock resonators to avoid this horrible raspy sound.

As mentioned, lack of having muffler/resonators is what's causing the loud drone. You removed the resonators or the rear mufflers?
Removing the two resonators would impact the drone the most. But that's not to say that removing the mufflers wouldn't.

The front resonator is straight through design and is sitting right under the drive/passenger. The other is a little further back but attenuates a lot of the raspiness.

My setup is a eurocode test pipe with the 2nd resonator removed and dual Remus mufflers. I love the sound and the gains.

    Nick, just to be clear, your set-up is: TP - - - - stock DP with smaller resonator - - - - straight pipes (without larger resonator) - - - - Y-pipe - - - - Remus mufflers ??

    Hows the drone? Raspiness?

I just ordered a Vibrant high flow resonator and a Magnaflow muffler, so hopefully that helps if not I'm putting in a second high flow resonator to keep the gains there but the drone out

I don't agree with all these posts.

Not all Non resonated exhausts sounds raspy on the 2.0t

I was pretty much straight piped with straight through Borla mufflers on my 2.0t and it was a smooth clean sound.....

The resonators are key to removing the raspiness. Be careful with Magnaflow mufflers as they can be LOUD. I have one on my other car and had to add a 26" and a 14" resonator to reduce to volume. Still loud, but deep and drones.

So I should place the Vibrant resonator I got where the first original resonator sat closer to the dp?

Hmm I also basically had straight pipe with a borla muffler on my b5 and it sounded deep, clean and just perfect and the borla muffler was basically a straight pipe too that's why I did this to my b8 but didn't realize I would have such a different outcome...maybe the trick is to get a borla muffler? I'm regretting purchasing the magnaflow ugh

I would be inclined to try it in that area first before moving further down the system.

I currently have two magnaflow mufflers with 1 res and a HFC and my car has a deep note to it. Its not LOUD but do have in-cabin drone. I've gotten used to it but it does bother me sometimes just a little. I do plan on adding my stock mid res back up since its a straight through design it shouldn't affect power.
Under WOT, my car sounds great.

Yep, that's my set up. The Remus mufflers do a great job of eliminating drone and I don't think it's raspy at all.

Installed the Remus mufflers on my 3.2 year and half ago when no cat backs were yet available for A4 3.2 - very nice sound, not loud, 'healthy'.

    Interesting!
Could you provide me with the link to the mufflers? I would like to compare those with my magnaflows - I think magnaflows are louder than anything else but deep.
Also, I've had mine on for over 14 months now, they may be a little worn it; if thats even possible.

Yes, it's possible for glass packed mufflers to get louder after they've been "broken in".

I'll try to take a vid/sound clip of my current set up of stock muffler and no resonators....It actually sounds a lot better than it did the first day but still want to put that vibrant res in, I think that will help but when I put the magnaflow muffler in I might be right back where I started ( I know it's going to make it louder but I'm just hoping its a lot cleaner sound) Also I just realized that since I have my back seats folded down due to 4 19in rims with tires in my car lol that the drone will be louder in cabin do to that so I also don't think it will be that bad was the back seats are folded up.

I'll also take a sound clip of how it sounds with the high flow res in after and try to take some pics of the exhaust work under the car.

I think this is exactly what I'm looking for. Do you know which model number pipe you bought? I found the 17930 which is 2.5" x 18". It's ~60 bucks on Amazon. Is that what you got? Thanks! Any sound clips of her?

Reviving this thread since I'm planning on going this route.

    Before I purchase, I wanted to see if this resonator would fit a 2010 A4 2.0T. http://www.amazon.com/Vibrant-1792-B...819031-6120959

I plan on removing both OEM resonators and replacing one with the vibrant resonator in the link above and the other with a straight pipe and keeping my oem muffler. (I only have a single side muffler with dual tips.)

    Source: goapr.com

Any recommendations whether I should place the vibrant resonator where the first resonator was or where the second was?

I also plan on getting an HFC installed in the upcoming week and will surely post a video clip when each mod is made and also with both mods made.

On my B5, i removed the muffler and center resonator. I replaced the muffler with a magnaflow exhaust. It is loud and drones quite a bit. Funny thing is, there wasn't much change until I took the center resonator off. Good solution is to weld the vibrant resonator back on where the center res used to be. I've been told that it will take the drone out.

I think that's what I'm gonna do in regards to the vibrant resonator placement. I am almost off work and have the resonator waiting for me at my door step. I plan on deleting both resonators and replacing the vibrant resonator where the center resonator went. Installation pictures to follow.

I have my OEM exhaust in the trunk with the seats folded down. Will this thing still release any harmful fumes while it sits there? I rolled down my windows while I was driving because I started feeling kinda funny.

I lived to tell the story. No seriously, I'm not sure what it was, but I smelled something funny while I was driving and it made me feel pretty light headed.

Going back OEM as soon as I get off work. My car went from Classy to Ghetto all in one shot and I won't stay another day like this.

Can't wait til my car is back to her old self..

Hey doowo, whenI went through all the exhaust threads. It appears that removing the rear muffler and replaced with a Y pipe to the tips is a good mod. Have you consider that route? Comments are not to remove the middle resonator. I am hoping someone who removed the first resonator and leave the rest stock can comment.
