    My B6 A4 rebuild project

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    What's up guys. I just purchased this old girl from the salvage auctions for $1900 out the gate. She has 174,XXX miles but is in pristine condition minus the front damage which isin't bad at all. Damage seems to be rad support, rad, front bumper, power steering pullet is bent so will replace the whole unit. I figure maybe 1k-1500 should get her going. AS work happens I will update progress. I'm located in Mooresville nc just north of Charlotte if anyone local wants to come hang out or help lol. I can't wait to get her on the road. It's a beautiful car and should be a blast to own. Also the car has brand new Michelin tires. Which I plan on putting rims on it eventually

    BAT = Big Ass Turbo

    BT = Big Turbo

    Yea that rad looks like it should fit. Theres only one radiator for the B6 1.8t so as long as its advertised to fit it should be fine. Nice pickup, and good luck with the repairs! Should be a nice DD.

    Edit: While the frontend is off you should inspect the timing belt & related components as well as the accessory belt, tensioner, etc. As well as inspect the Vac lines, and all the other bits that are a pain to access without putting it into service position. Maybe check out the thermostat as well and make sure its not weeping coolant.

    I would seriously consider getting a stage 1 chip. The stock 1.8t is pretty anemic. With the chip it gives it just enough power to make it fun to drive. Plus you get slightly better MPGs putting around off boost. Of course it does put added stress on some of the components, but as long as you stay on top of the regular maintenance, its nothing a few hours with a wrench can't solve.

    Looks like it should be a decent car once you address the front end damage. I have a power steering pump if you're interested...even if you're just going to scavenge it for the pulley.

    Like Charles said, it would be a good idea to do a timing belt service while the front clip is off (unless you have bona fide documentation that its been done recently).

    I'd do a suspension before you slap on bigger "rims". You can pick up an OEM "Sport" suspension for next to nothing these days.

    Nothing wrong with 17" wheels...nice and comfortable. 19's look great, but ride quality decreases and depending on your road conditions can get beat up pretty easily.

    I went with APR because Achtuning is local to me, but theres also REVO and Unitronic that lots of people around here have gone with.

    LINK

    I went with Stage 1 last Summer while there was a Sale going on. Fully loaded 4 program ECU w/ Security Lockout and Fault code erase for $550 or something. One of these days I'm going to buy bigger injectors and bump it up to Stage1+.

    As far as who to go with, I would find a local shop that is a dealer for one of the big 3 (the tuners I listed above) and go with what is local to you. If you ever have any issues with the tune its pays to have local support and easy access.

    Some people might say Stage1 is a waste, but I'm very happy with the uptick in power and torque from just the chip. $550 for ~40hp and 50ft/lbs is a fantastic deal. So long as you stay on top of oil changes and regular maintenance, you shouldn't experience any less reliability than stock.

    Ok guys. Front end is completely disassemble. Ana wow that was a pain. I took the power steering pump off which required me to remove the alternator. But anyways. Now tracking down all the parts I need to fix her. Here is a few shots. Hopefully parts will come in fast as my sub division is gonna kill me haha

    Ok guys in the process of ordering the radiator fan assembly so thats done. Waiting on a few things to sell so I have more funds then I am ordering the radiator core support found it new for @10 shipped which isint too bad I don't think. Only a few more parts needed to order that will be needed to drive her. Getting pretty excited. I was messing around with the stereo today. I usually do really loud systems last was in my Durango 2 15: mojos 3000 rms amp 4 batteries and a huge box all built by me. But this stock Bose sounds great with the factory woofer I don't see a need to change it. Way to go Audi is all I have to say.

    you've done 90% of the work already.

    DIY CLICKY CLICK

    It really won't take you more than an evening to do it at this point, and if it breaks your engine is going to be garbage. You have no idea when it was last done and if it wasn't done yet your car is a ticking time bomb.

    You're looking at under $250 for coolant, timing belt and metal water pump. My towing bill was more than that when the belt broke on my TDI passat.

    Really, you are going to save maybe $50 or $100. Personally I always feel sketchy about not using good parts for something so critical.

    Obviously it makes no difference to me what you do, I would just hate to see you get it all together and then have to spend $3000 fixing something that would have cost you $200.

    just spend the money and get the belt, our engines are interference engines which means the pistons and valves share the same space so when the belt breaks you'll be replacing a lot more than the belt, this is THE most important maintanence job on this car
