    235/35 r19 load/speed rating??

    i'm looking for tires 235/35 r19. i can't find a load rating higher than a 91Y.
    what is everyone else running?
    stock the rating is a 95Y, i've heard a shop cannot legally install tire that have a lower rating than stock tires.
    but millions of people are running 19's on their B6/B7. so are they running lower load ratings? is this safe?

    i could also used some tire suggestions. my budget is around 1000. unless someone has got used tires they want to sell

    They can install any speed rating you want, but they might just require you to sign some waiver.

    Running a lower load rating means more heat is generated and the sidewalls are working harder. You'll reduce tire life and increase chances of a blow-out. I would not run anything under a 95.

    I'm in the same situation, looking for a 235/35/19 summer tire to run on my 19x8.5 et 35 wheels. From what I can tell, no 235/35 tire has a load rating high than 91. At 245/35 you generally find 93, and at 255/35 around 96. I've been running a 93 XL over the past two summers and haven't had any issues. I'm leaning towards the 235 this summer but might stick with the 245, not sure yet. Either way, make sure you get a XL rated tire.

    another guy in another thread said that anything the the 90s would be safe. i'm pretty sure the b7 s4 weights around 1150 on the front two tires. 87 load rate is rated at 1201. the lowest i'm willing to run is 91Y. i think that should be okay. with a XL rating obviously.

    yeah, I ran a

    Falken 452 215/35R-19XL 86Z BSW tire on my 2006 Jetta with 0 issues. Given, its lighter than an Audi, but even then they are probably right around capable.

    if the above weight is correct,

    89 = 1,279 pounds
    88 = 1,235 pounds
    87 = 1,201 pounds
    86 = 1,168 pounds
    85 = 1,135 pounds

    you should be totally fine with anything above the 86, especially if your not stretching the heck out of the tires.

    Keep in mind that while the tire may see X number of pounds (Say 1150 because that is the number you stated) while static that number can go much higher when driving. Imagine going through a compression that exerts a half G worth of loading and all of a sudden that 1150lbs goes to 1725lbs. I know it is not for extended periods of time but on a 87 load rated tire that is 50% more load then what the MFG designed into the safe working load of the tire.

    Having experienced a catastrophic tire failure a number of years back I never ever want to be in that situation again....I stick to OEM recommendations when it comes to tire load ratings.

    Cheers,
    Jim

    oh man. now i really have to reconsider things. i need a tire that will fit a b7 s4 19x8.5 et35 on a lowered suspension! i think i'm going to have to put some camber on my setup. i want to shy away from uneven tire wear.
    who makes a 235/35r19 95Y???????? or something close to fit my set-up.

    Nobody makes that.... 235/35 only goes to 91. The biggest you can realistically run while lowered is 245/35 and that would get you to 93.

    If you don't believe me, go hop on tirerack and look at the load ratings for every 235/35/19. All of them are 91.

    Just to be clear the tire failure was not because of running out of spec tires....

    But it did scare the crap out of me enough so that I will always stick with, or go higher, then the MFG states.

    That is just the way I roll....LOL

    i checked tirerack. i'm been looking day and night for tires. i'm trying to find someone who has slightly used tires. hopefully some ps2 or p zero or potenzas. wish me luck. i'm aiming for a 93Y but will settle for a 91Y if the price is right. i don't drive hard. mainly straight line if i do.
