Black steering wheel on beige interior? Yes? No? maybe ... Photoshop inside

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My problem is this, my steering wheel looks horrible and I've been looking for a while for a good deal. I don't want to spend $600 on a new one, but I found a new black one for $200. It comes without the airbag cover so I'd have to add $65 for that if I go this way.

So please let me know what you think? I probably made the black to strong but you get the idea.

    This is now

    Photoshop

EDIT: made it a bit lighter which I think is what would be in real.

I wouldn't do it personally. Looks out of place without anything else black. Now if you were to make more of your interior two-tone black and beige, it could look pretty good. Start with dying the carpet black, then maybe the door panel inserts.

That said, what's wrong with your current steering wheel. I can tell by looking at it you've probably got a 05.5 or 06, so be happy you have the 3-spoke over the 4-spoke.

Gotcha. Honestly I'd maybe try and find an beige dye first and see if that works. Cheapest solution. And stop man handling your steering wheel

OP, did you use any cleaning detergents on the wheel? Such as armorall?

Yes I did, not anymore. I contacted them and filed a claim with no results.

Find a leather shop near you and have it redyed. It should cost you no more than 100 dollars. Take the wheel off and bring it to them. (Take the MFSW switches out first...)

They will sand down the wheel, mask it and redye it. Had mine done and it looked brand new afterwards.

Agreed would only look good on two tone. Perhaps top half all black (dash, upper doors, steering wheel) bottom half beige. But just one piece stands out a bit too much.

Do you have a picture? I've always been skeptical about doing that cause of the perforated leather. It sound good though, I'd really like to see he result though.

I didn't take any after it was done and that was over a year ago, and the wheel is broken in again (shine) but your best bet is to talk to the leather shop themselves and have them show you some work. As long as they know what they are doing it's going to come out right.

That was my thought too, but wasn't sure if it's a bit too much, that's why asked for opinions. Like it's been said, some more black would help.

I think black would look ok.. Here is someones pic with a black flat bottom wheel. You would prorbaly want to get the steering column pieces black also if you do go this route.

I say do it. The normal everyday person will not know the difference. My Explorer comes with a tan interior but black steering wheel from the factory and I never thought twice about it.

Go black, you won't have to worry about the tan showing grime and will be something different, if you didn't have the black vinyl it wouldn't work, but you do, so there you go!

Honestly I'm not 100% certain, but I know they are available. You may try contacting OEMPlus as I know if you order one of their super expensive steering wheels they'll put whatever badge you want on it - maybe they'll sell the badge by itself. As for having a custom one made, I'm sure you could get a little metal one machined or a sticker at sign shop
