Largest "big rotor brake kit" for stock 17" wheels ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wondering what the largest brake rotor kit is you can fit under the stock 17s? I run in my 17s w/ snow tires in winter but running 19s in summer and just want some more stoping power and fill up the 19s better. Might run 18s for winter next year but not sure.

I believe your challenge may be the rotor size, it's hard to rock any kind of true BBK over and above stock with 17's.

I upgraded to OEM S4 front brakes which is a very subtle BBK upgrade and can't go smaller than 18's

Does somebody sell a S4 brake kit?
Maybe ill look into it and just switch out to 18" snow tires next year.

    Under 1000$ here's what I did.

    Dimpled/slotted classics Adams rotors 450$
Stoptech track pads with sensors 160$
Stop Tech stainless steel lines- 140$
    Pentosin racing brake fluid-23$
    Painted stock calipers-20$

793$ for a little show and a lot of stop...
You will have a hard time finding a full bbk for under 2000$
And In reality our stock brakes do the job pretty damn awesome.
If its all about looks to you... Save your money and get 18" wheels and bbk

All you need are the s4 carriers and the rotors.
It's about 1200 for the entire thing from Adams rotors, ebc red stuff pads, and the carriers from gap
Rebuild the caliper and put the new carrier in, hell add another $100 and get the clip that says "s4"

The only difference in our a4 brakes over the s4 is rotors. 321x30 vs 345x30
    Rear are
    288x28 non floating vs
    301x30 dual floating

At about 1300 with shipping and fluid, probably the most cost effect brake upgrade.

I was always unsure of this, which is the only reason I haven't upgraded to S4 rotors yet.

I have ran A6 17x8 Fat Fives, A6 17x8 Pie Plates and I am pretty sure that all OEM 17s will clear because rotor size is not really an issue with 17s. I have never heard of an OEM 17 that did not clear.

I am looking to upgrade my brakes as well, and I found a bit of info in these threads, although it is not 100% confirmed.

The 2nd thread would seem to indicate the calipers on the S4 carriers will fit with some minor grinding required.

Anyone done this willing to post photos?

I'm planning to upgrade to S4 rotors at my next brake job but want to keep the 17" split 5-spokes for winter wheels.

^ probably a double piston vs the a4/s4 single piston. Would be a better upgrade, but im sure it will be a lot more costly.

    Nice!

Which calipers will you go with? B8 A4/S4/A5/S5?

Where to source them? And how much?

I am interested to follow your progress. Post up some pics when done.

    Good luck.

Anyone can confirm that those 17" wheels clear the S4 front brakes?

Going off other users input as well as tirerack I'm willing to bet its super close but will fit. I'll be due for brakes in the spring time so I will swap to the S4 brakes then. Worse comes to worse I need a 5mm spacer, hell the car could use some spacers stock anyway for looks.

I created a thread in the S4 forum seeing how there are more S4 people who frequent there.
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...17-quot-wheels

If it doesnt work out, I think I will just go for the modbargains stoptech kit. I need to order brakes real soon.

So it seems from the other thread that we are able to fit s4 sized rotors under the 17" wheels. If I wanted to upgrade both both rotors to the S4 size (345mm front and 300mm rear). I would only need to get new carriers for them to work right?

Let me know how that works out for you. I am really considering getting the S4 bracket and rotors but still want to use my split 5 spokes wheels.
