What is power steering fluid supposed to look like?

so my car started buzzing whenever I turned the wheel, so I checked my power steering fluid levels. It is low, so I know that's the problem. However, it is also a tannish color with little spots of darker brown. If you understand what I mean.

It's tan because it's dirty. Flush the system and fill to the proper level which is 10mm above the HOT line

The power steering fluid is green and this is common. Very few people ever change their power steering fluid and I would sell flushes all day long because the fluid would be brown.

I would change it again in a few months or so. It will pick up more dirt so keep flushing until it stays clean

here is how I change it:
    1. use turkey baster to suck all the fluid out of the resivor
    2. fill with new fluid to a fairly full level - say 1in from the top
    3. start car and turn the wheel lock to lock 3 times
    4. shut off the car and repeat 1-3

It will take about 2L of fluid until the shit you extract looks clean. Then drive for a few months and do the process again if it is still dirty

It will take you more than 3 times if you want to be thorough. Took me almost 10.

Fresh fluid is a light brown color. Dirty fluid will be darker.
